Have you considered that maybe the jammer isn’t targeting the ground station receiver but the GPS satellites in orbit themselves?

Is GPS Satellite receive transmission from thousands or maybe hundreds of thousands receivers from the ground ? No.

You Jam the receiver, Not the transmitter. The way one deny the GPS coverage is to jam the GPS receivers within the area.

They are prison labour. I don't see you getting up to arms about US prison labour.

So what. Russia can pay them up to $2 per hour/day and that's good. That's how America works, do you see anyone outraged on US' prison system?

I am awaiting your response

In this situation, what’s good for the goose is good for the gander, if the USA is prepared to bomb innocent people to death, babies and children and woman for all these years, then the USA should be very prepared that the same can easily happen in reverse should the chance arise. Of course what is done is wrong and no one is going to say it is right, but if some people get all up in arms for what Russia is doing to those that are not only POWs but POWs that have been throughly warned in light of what is going to happen if they get caught, then I can only say that a lot of people are not going to have much sympathy for those that get caught as the western media is trying to invoke to mixed results. The azov gets to bury Russia POW alive along with castration and the Russians get to return the favour in kind. That in a way is fairness, the Ukrainian leadership angers Russia for eight years by killing their country men, Russia reacts now, the Ukrainian soldiers treat Russian POW in a subhuman manner, the Ukrainian POW get treated in a similar manner in return. In the end, a lot of non western nations don’t seem to have much sympathy for Ukraine and it is not hard to see why.
Of course I am not advocating such actions but in the end, well war is war and most people should be prepared to accept that atrocities are bound to happen. What does sicken me, is that the collective west dares try and play paragon after everything the collective west has done to others. So in the end, if the same happens in return, I can only hope that people can understand that just because a nation is a super power, doesn’t mean that have the God given right to basically pretend that they are immune to the consequences because in the end, nobody can escape from them. Again I am not endorsing war crimes, I am only pointing out that an equal lens should be adopted before anyone accuses Russia of human rights abuses because most of the time, those that throws these accusations are often guilty of doing the same but worse and quietly hidden by the western media so that some people will side with the west in a manner that is not even remotely wanting to consider that maybe that opposition have very good reason for why they are reacting like this. The Geneva conventions is a load of crap, because the USA is not beholden to them give what they have done to so many other nations while being punished for any one of them, just like the afghan family that got bombed in their driveway with his family, along with the USA turning Afghanistan into a rubbish heap. Unless justice is done for these victims, no one can convince me that any of these UN agreements or Geneva charter means anything at all. In the end, the scales need to be balanced

I agree it s not the most efficient way to do it, but I don't think it's impossible, GPS transmits at like 40W from 20000km away, let's say you have a 10kW jammer at 900km your signal is 120000 times stronger, so even if 99.999% is blocked, some will get through (multipath, ionosphere reflection, even bouncing off random civilian aircraft)

Let us stop discussing whether Russia should use POW as slave labor before Deino decides to close this thread, I think we can all agree that its wrong. The divergence in opinion is those indignant feels justified in doing so, an "eye for an eye" and Golden rule attitude is what they are advocating. Personally, I don't want those POW to go through slave labor, I'd rather have those that committed war crimes be punished, and those left be used as leverage in negotiations against NATO and US for funds in reconstruction of Ukraine.

Agreed, in the end, this discussion on POW is just going to invite a very big debate that isn’t going to contribute to anyones sanity

instead I am more interested in the development of what is going on in Mariupol

One must wonder as to whether Zelenski realises if actions like this isn’t going to stop Putin but only harden his resolve because if their is one thing I can see, is that a comedian can never match up to someone who has served the KGB and have years of experience under his belt. One must wonder if zelenski even with the aid of the collective west could even break even against a man many times his senior because with all these moves made in desperation, he must sense that what he is doing is almost pitiful of not outright sad that me must be reduced to begging for aid like this. What is more important, the people or making ‘Brandon’ happy?

This article is too vague, you'd expect some form of GPS jamming would occur, but at what scale? Just the immediate local area of Russian forces or nation wide jamming? Ground based EW system or EW aircraft? Dumb brute force jamming on GPS band or smart jamming with fake GPS protocol signals?

Since Ukr won't be lobbing GPS guided bombs at the Russians anytime soon I don't think GPS jamming is a big deal, best it can do is to confuse Ukr maneuvering elements on the ground and hope they can't read maps....

Edit: I forgot Ukr still have some helicopters and fixed wings left, so yeah that may fuck with their nav
There is two GPS(USA) signal, one for civilian, other for military.

The military way stronger, but require special keys that can be obtained from equipment.

The civilian is easy to jam, the military very hard.

Anyway, the GPS(China,Russia) most probably doesn't work in Ukraine any more, or gives false data.
If they jam the civilian frewuencies then all cheap, consumer drone become useless, and the USA has to spend real money on military grade drone/GPS(USA) equipment for the Ukrainans, with military keys .

I have no clue how the USA keying working, but I presume they need to periodcally update all GPS(USA) key over secure communication, means they have to integrate the Ukrainans into the NATO communication network, with the relavant communication keys.
