What western europe experienced in those decades is basically nothing compared to what Russia experienced in the following years after 1991.Well, then you probably didn't live in Western Europe through the 70s and early 80s with severe oil crisis, social unrest and economic downturn with mass unemployment. Things haven't always been rosy in euroland
A single look at the falling life expectancy (millions outright DIED during transition from communism) or some digging into videos taken from that time will make you laugh at w/e happened in western europe during 70s and 80s.
