Still no word from the Ukrainians about the alleged attack on the second mercenary base in Novaya Lyubomirka. 80 dead according to the Russians. It's been two days and there's been zero pictures, not even a denial. They're not even claiming the Russians missed and hit a hospital or dog rescue kennel or something. Full radio silence instead.

I imagine it's too far away from the Polish border for the mercenaries to run to. Also the Ukrainians finally may have realised the value of having western soldiers dying for your war and are not letting them flee anymore.

Still, you'd expect at least one or two videos to leak out.

Deterrence doesnt work if your enemies are delusional and think you are weak and losing while you are actually winning.
This is the sad truth.

Russia and China need to deter the western elites themselves with targeted strikes against their mansions and off-shore refuges. Deterring them with population center strikes doesnt seem to work, if they lie to themselves that you are somehow too poor to afford missiles.

Russia would strike that location again with a hypersonic missile, telegraphing it to NATO beforehand.

Have you noticed that NATO, the US, and the UK are silent about it as well?

Thanks to Putin's actions NATO is good for another 50 years and will almost certainly expand to include Finland and Sweden, as well as a re-armed Germany.
actually, that is a very wishful and superficial interpretation which overlooks who really benefits abs whose interests are harmed. The reality is the reverse is likely to be true. Without forcing Russia to stop NATO in Ukraine, NATO might have lingered on 50 more years because the US would want to continue to use it while no state inside NATO has string reason to kill it.

But western europe, except britain, now has a reason to kill it because allowing it to continue to exist under the dominating influence of the US puts western europe in existential danger purely for the benefit of the US and eastern europe.

I keep hearing the word "shelling" applied to everything Russia's doing, so I decided to write a Journalist's Guide To Russian Shelling:
500kg ODAB fuel-air bomb: shelling.
Iskander SRBM: shelling.
Kalibr cruise missile: shelling.
Kinzhal aeroballistic missile: shelling.
152mm artillery shell: bombing.
Feel free to add to the guide.

Public opinion in Sweden currently favors NATO membership and is growing (actually a major historical shift).
If the liberal-conservatives wins the next election they have said they will ask to join.
The current Swedish government is a minority lead one by the Socialdemocrats and might feel pressured to take the same position.
Finland will likely join if and when Sweden does (less risky for both to do it at the same time).

Both countries will eventually join NATO in my opinion. The only question is when.
Why didn't either of those countries join NATO during the Cold War when the Russians were driving tanks over Hungarians, Poles and other various types of eastern Euros? Weren't the public outraged back then?

No need to telegraph anything, Russia isn't Iran.

Yep very strange. Especially with the first base attack. They definitely know at this point how many of their soldiers and civilians got killed (if any). I can't remember the last time America has hid the deaths of its own citizens that it knows about. You'd think their family members would want to know.

NAh you have it all wrong, you need to write ''indiscriminate shelling'' for Russia's doing ! It's what we got on all news channel in the west, and also anything that shot on a building anywhere in the world or anything exploding, become Russia's ''indiscriminate shelling'' in Ukraine.

You forgot Ukrainian strelkas firing into their own buildings. That's also Russian shelling.
