I live in a NATO member state (Germany) and our armed forces have been reduced to a bare minimum. There were no plans to invade a neighboring country. There were big plans to put all our energy into the fight against climate change.

Unfortunately, Germany isn't in charge of NATO, is it?

Germany tried very hard to avoid this whole mess, and I was hoping they'd succeed.

But they didn't. NATO kept expanding Eastward and Germany could give no guarantees that it would stop.

My prediction is that Ukraine will be neutral, Finland and Sweden will not join NATO, but there will be heightened tensions and deterioration of relations with Russia for decades to come. However, many will also say it was a mistake to ever court Ukraine to join NATO and will blame the Obama Administration for fomenting conflict in Ukraine through its successful coup plotting against Yanukovych... This war is just a continuation of the war that began in 2014 after Yanukovych's predominantly US backed overthrow...

Why would Armenia want NATO membership after being attacked by a NATO member's ally?
Not to mention it is already a CSTO member with Russian bases on its soil. Shows how seriously you should take his opinion.

The UK has territorial disputes with Spain and Northern Ireland is disputed, doesn't stop them being a member.

One cannot make man portable missile launchers against aircraft or amour to large...There comes a point where they will no longer be man portable be be able to take out very thick armour...
Yeah, that’s true. And then we’ll resort to artillery, technicals and drones with anti tank missiles, and suicide drones that are basically big flying missiles since the armored vehicles will literally be sitting ducks. Plus, we have been through that era: it’s called World War 1. Those heavy duty tanks were targeted by artillery and can easily be disabled. You can claim that the engines would be improved and improve the speed, but that negates your point on the pace of the battle being slower. Plus, they are still susceptible to the above. Thicker armor won’t solve the problem. Ultimately the quality of the armor and the tech to intercept the incoming rounds and missiles will play a major role in determining an armored vehicle’s existence.

An alliance is just an agreement made on paper. If Russia invades Latvia or a Baltic country and threatens a full nuclear response if anyone gets involved. Do you think Americans are all going to agree to die in a nuclear war for Latvia? They'll finally do what they've refused to do so far in this war and sit down with Putin and sort out a deal.

The only real alliance in the western world is the Anglo-US one, and maybe a Franco-German one.

"if" Russia ever gears up to invade the Baltics we'll have that discussion. It's moot for now.
