Good thread from a former American combat veteran volunteer that ran away because he thought he was going to have fun like he did in Iraq with air supremacy fighting goat herders.
Holy shit man. A Reddit topic about active recruitment of foreign mercs for an active war. I take what I said back. Even 4chan does not engage in this kind of activity.

If true that's excellent targetting by the Russians: kill the Ukrainian trainers, destroy the weapon stockpiles but leave the foreign volunteers alone so they can leave on their own. Those guys leaving will do further morale damage to the Ukrainian forces.
People went to Ukraine thinking they're fighting the good war and were going to mow down Russian troops from afar.
Reality hits them hard (like a cruise missile strike 500km from the front lines).

At least some people learnt the lesson before it was too late.

From the looks of things, it's less 'highly trained foreign legion' and more 'rag tag militia, more warm bodies to waste shells on.'

I stand by my statement!

Was he a private contractor truck driver? NYPD pays far better than US military, and they pay over-time! AND, if you’re smart (and, not really that smart), you make more in retirement than you did on the job! So, I’m skeptical of that account.

Additionally, neither Iraq nor Afghanistan were particularly guaranteed to be dangerous. This is the reason that the US is disingenuously comparing their casualty-count in those conflicts to reported Russian casualty-counts in Ukraine.

Also, you did fail to mention why he was ex-NYPD, and did you fail to mention that any ”other” offers might have been a greater motivation than pay?

He is an ex-marine also prior to being NYPD. I don't know how much he was paid but he keeps going back so I presume it is GOOD money. All I know is motivation was not political or religious belief.

BTW. I do not think he was working directly for US military.

Or they got lucky. Ukraine claims 30 missiles were launched and only 8 landed. it’s not impossible that 1 of the 22 were intended for the foreigners but got intercepted. Assuming 30 missiles were actually launched.

They will then hop into the next plane and volunteer to fight for "Taiwanese Freedom" only to receive hell of missiles, drones, artillery barrage, Navy attacks from China's PLA. And like clockwork, they will tuck tail and run back to their comfortable living in the U.S. will they just resigned themselves from reverting to becoming the keyboard commandos that they are. Fighting technologically, and militarily inferior adversaries is one thing, but to fight countries like Russia and China are a whole league of their own. You can't just simply call an air strike when you're in a pickle because your planes can be shot down anytime.

As I have stated weeks ago, the idea that these so-called "volunteer" fighters joining the conflict in Ukraine is like taking or seeing a page from the last Chris Pratt movie "The Tomorrow War." That movie essentially recruited people from the future without any training, anyone can join regardless of mental, and physical fitness to fight an enemy that's trying to end every human being on the planet and is close to succeeding. Insanity.
