Man, I cannot wait to see her come off the ways and get launched.

Not quite as exciting for me as the Ford or Zumwalt...but very exciting just the same. Will be nice to know the UKs carriers are back out there, on station.

And it'd mark a watershed that, after several decades, the Royal Navy once again have a large aircraft carrier in its order of battle, as for a long time they're the one amongst the "Big 5" who operates the smallest aircraft carrier (while China has none until last year).

Trust me its deep. My grandparents were protestant Scot on one side and Irish Catholics on the other. My mother and uncle were shunned by both sides and I am not even acknowledged as existing. This mind you is in the USA. Its a very old conflict that has lasted for generations and will continue to for many more.

The Bible also says this;

Matthew 5:43-

43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.

44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

I know exactly what you mean coming from Scotland we face a lot of the same problems people in Ireland face, the attitudes don’t change this is one reason why Irish and Scots get along and why so many Irish come to study at Scottish University’s

I know of Catholic’s from Republic who refuse to inter-marry into the Protestants of North Ireland and vice vera and Protestants who refuse to deal with Catholics in any form of business, the violence may have stopped but the hatred hasn’t

I see the Catholic and Protestant issue in Christianity no different from the Sunni and Shia issue in Islam, both believe in God and both believe in the Prophets but at the very extremes we have people who split the two apart, the fault lines run deep with much historically animosity , so it’s down to us moderate guys to decide where we want to fit in and where we will take future generations, we what we say and do is important because we bear the burden for good or bad and it doesn’t take much to swing it either way which is one reason why we should have a comprehensive knowledge of world affairs and military so I guess it’s all related to Queen Elizabeth Class!

Yes, and now she (the QE) is coming together and making progress towards that goal...and we can look at her now and clearly see what she will be.

In 2014 they will launch her, outfit her, trial her, and then commission her in 2017...and then she will start getting her F-35B JSF aircraft in 2018-2019. A few years thereafter, we will see her doing exactly what she was designed to do.

Okay guys, thanks. Really thanks. I am fine though. I take a live and let live with them and play the Adult in the situation. If they don't want anything to do with me. That's there problem.
But my point is its unlikely for any Irish reunification in our times. The bad blood between the Protestant and Catholics is as deep as the Sunni and Shiite or Japanese and Chinese.
Now lets get back to the UK defense talk.

Anyone likes the look of the future Type 26? To me it is the best looking frigate RN and the rest of the european countries ever produced, with the Singapore's Formidable class came in a close second.

The GCS has basically tuned into a mulit-role destroyer.

And that is fine, the UK will need them.

But compare these specifications for the Type 26 Global Combat Ship (GCS):

Displacement: 6,000 tons full load
Length: 487 ft.
Beam: 66 ft.
Propulsion: CODLOG (2 Shafts)
1 x Rolls Royce MT30 Gas Turbine
4 x High Speed Diesel Generators
2 x Electric Motors
Speed: 28+ knts
Crew: 120 (Accomoadations for 190)
Armament:
1 x 127mm DP Gun
8 x 6 VLS Sea Cepter missiles (48 missiles)
4 x 4 VLS Mk-41 for LACM (16 missiles)
2 x 20mm Phalanx CIWS
2 x 30mm DS30M Autocannons
2 x 7.63 mm miniguns
2 x Triple Stingray Torpedo launchers
Aircraft: Full pad and hanger
2 x Lynx HAS/HMA helicopters - or -
1 x Merlin ASW/SAR Helicopter

...to the specifications of the Type 42 Destroyer that the Royal Navy operated for several decades (the last of which was decommissioned in June of 2013):

Displacement:
Batch 1-2: 4,350 tons full load
Batch 3: 5,350 tons full load
Length:
Batch 1-2: 412 ft.
Batch 3: 465 ft.
Beam: 49 ft.
Propulsion: COCOG (2 Shafts)
2 x Rolls-Royce Olympus TM3B high-speed gas turbines
2 x Rolls-Royce Tyne RM1C cruise gas turbines
Speed: 30+ knts
Crew: 253
Armament:
1 x 114mm Mark 8DP Gun
1 x twin Sea Dart Launcher (22 missiles)
2 x 20mm Phalanx CIWS
2× Oerlikon L/70 KBA 20 mm guns
2 x Triple Stingray Torpedo launchers
Aircraft: Full pad and hanger
1 x Lynx HAS/HMA helicopter

These new Type 26 are quite a bit bigger and much more heavily armed than the Type 42 DDGs were. In fact, IMHO, outside of the MR-LR AAW capabilities, the Type 26 will be a better armed, and much more mulit-role capable vessel that the Type 45 daring Classs DDGs.

IMO due to the sinking of HMS Sheffield and Coventry, the British emphasize the AAW capabilities on its surface vessels more than any other countries in the world, and Daring class was built with that in mind. The multi-role task will be given to the Type 26, which is larger and capable of more roles than its predecessor, the Type 23.
