Anyone likes the look of the future Type 26? To me it is the best looking frigate RN and the rest of the european countries ever produced, with the Singapore's Formidable class came in a close second.
The GCS has basically tuned into a mulit-role destroyer.
And that is fine, the UK will need them.
But compare these specifications for the Type 26 Global Combat Ship (GCS):
Displacement: 6,000 tons full load
Length: 487 ft.
Beam: 66 ft.

1 x Rolls Royce MT30 Gas Turbine
4 x High Speed Diesel Generators
2 x Electric Motors
Speed: 28+ knts
Crew: 120 (Accomoadations for 190)

1 x 127mm DP Gun
8 x 6 VLS Sea Cepter missiles (48 missiles)

2 x 30mm DS30M Autocannons
2 x 7.63 mm miniguns
2 x Triple Stingray Torpedo launchers

2 x Lynx HAS/HMA helicopters - or -
1 x Merlin ASW/SAR Helicopter
...to the specifications of the Type 42 Destroyer that the Royal Navy operated for several decades (the last of which was decommissioned in June of 2013):
Displacement:
Batch 1-2: 4,350 tons full load
Batch 3: 5,350 tons full load
Length:
Batch 1-2: 412 ft.
Batch 3: 465 ft.
Beam: 49 ft.
Propulsion: COCOG (2 Shafts)
2 x Rolls-Royce Olympus TM3B high-speed gas turbines
2 x Rolls-Royce Tyne RM1C cruise gas turbines
Speed: 30+ knts
Crew: 253

1 x 114mm Mark 8DP Gun

2 x 20mm Phalanx CIWS
2× Oerlikon L/70 KBA 20 mm guns
2 x Triple Stingray Torpedo launchers
Aircraft: Full pad and hanger
1 x Lynx HAS/HMA helicopter
These new Type 26 are quite a bit bigger and much more heavily armed than the Type 42 DDGs were. In fact, IMHO, outside of the MR-LR AAW capabilities, the Type 26 will be a better armed, and much more mulit-role capable vessel that the Type 45 daring Classs DDGs.
