No, I mean switch in 5.8mm caliber rounds developed to work against soft tissue. It would mean every 3rd round or so would not be armor-piercing; the 5.8mm are actually FMJ rounds, which in comparison to soft-point bullets gain armor-piercing in return for reduced wounding capability versus soft targets.

Re: Type 95 assault rifle

The reason American Snipers and Some special ops get away with open tip round (Not hollow points ) is because of flight performance, not Ballistic performance the Convention does ban using a round developed or modified too cause more damage too the enemy.
Second Removing body armor would not save a soldier form the round it would open them too other kinds of injuries negated by the Armor such as Fire, shrapnel or explosive forces Currently absorbed by the armor. It's Ironic really there are so many Us wounded today yet the in the past the attacks that today end in WIA's Would have caused KIA's the armor on American and allies protects the most venerable parts the same locations once covered by Roman soldiers and on the Greek hoplite's the chest, back, kidneys shoulders, Groin and head. the more likely answer too a improved anti armor round is a Improved Armor. Lamellar gave too bronze breastplate's and linothorax gave too Chain mail and Iron plate these became more solid until the Knight became the lumbering steel behemoth but then the bullet killed him that is until Kevlar and Ceramic.

That is not that valid an arguement, is the armored knight obsolete because of armor piercing bullets or is it a combination of AP and HE shells? no armor except an exo-suit can deal with HE blast. There is just too many ways of defeating armor cheaply than to make it worthwhile.

We can easily go back to full size rifle rounds like the 7.92 or the 303 if needed, and if necessary the 12.7 or 14.5 mm is also an option.

Direct penetration is not needed to kill the soldier, you can have 20 mm HE like in the OICW, or how about napalm or other incendiary based warheads? - armor will have minimal effect.

Re: Type 95 assault rifle

To HKSDU:
FMJ is not the same as armor piercing: Armor piercing is in fact a FMJ tip with hardened steel or hardmetal insert.
Soft tip is outlawed for military use by The Hague convention; only FMJ allowed against human targets; there has been much discussion or wether or not us sniper round with open tipped, mostly covered cavity is in fact trully FMJ!
Don't change the convention or war will become really messy!

Hey guys if you haven't seen the Kane & Lynch 2 trailers you might want to check it out. They're using a bunch of Chinese small arms like the type-95, hawk shot guns, type-79 and 05 sub-machine guns, type-88 sniper rifle and type-88 gpmg.

Most of the changes are minor, though there's a short, Picatinny rail type design right at the base of the front sight, though I'd assume China goes for their own standard on this one rather than the US MIL-STD-1913 standard. Although mounting for flashlight and laser aiming device would make sense for such an addition, it'd be better if the Chinese would go all the way - Picatinny rail the whole foregrip portion, like the 3rd-party accessory demonstrated, but that's too radical for the Chinese anyway.

And the grenade launcher...why follow the Russian system after so long?

Re: Type 95 assault rifle

I believe the front loading Russian grenade launcher to be simpler and cheaper in production, sturdier in combat and easier to use uder combat-stress (less and smaller movements need to be made, so its easier to reload under cover or while lying down(under fire)).

Re: Type 95 assault rifle

I know wikipedia isn't a reliable source but according to it, GP-25 has a barrel life of 400 rounds how does that compare to the other attached grenade launchers?
