Re: Type 95 assault rifle

If camo-ing the rifle is what you're talking about, here's one from the same open-house event, non-standard issue work made by the soldiers themselves...yes I asked about it and they told me that.

Yeah, thats the one.

I remember that the unit that actually do the most camouflaging of the rifle is actually our sniper units (with their Styr Sniper rifle). Normal infantry unit don't do much of this type of camouflaging... though.

shredded Camo uniform. nice work on it too.

The problem with black it it's only shadow and NOD is more and more common. In both Operations of Iraq and Afghanistan US and NATO nations have been see with more and more camo'ed Rifles and equipment. and not only by SF, regular ground infantry too.

I find it very weird for the Marine to wear blue color camo. It going to stick out like a sore thumb in green vegetation.

Not a very tactically wise move.

You're right, but consider that where they station their marines at and you'd understand - those small islands (and some of 'em nothing more than big bolders stick out of the sea) at the South China Sea are their primary operation areas, and the pattern works in those coral reef shores.

In jungle or forest areas, there're respective camo patterns for them.

wether you think it is a valid thing too do or not is not my point. What my point was, the one I was trying too make is that the second photo at the top of the page shows a grenade launcher mounted on a type 95 rifle and that launcher assembly is tan in color why? are they adopting the tan color for new weapons or was it a fluke?

Unlikely a fluke. It's the decision of the manufacturer to produce the launcher in that colour, and being who they are as professionals, you would expect them to choose color for camouflage and nothing else. The PLA must have agreed to it, otherwise they wouldn't have decided to purchase and use it.

That's just it, the sad fact is, American audiences will likely just eat up the ak-armed "PLA soldiers" of the new Red Dawn.

Just look at any American media depiction of the Chinese military, and you'll see the term "human wave" come up and up again.

It's not just the average joe either. A friend of mine, who majored in WW2 history and is currently in the Navy, also believes that China won the Korea War with human wave tactics.

Yes, you are right. It is better for them to believe that Chinese are stupid and inferior. Chinese do not know tactic and the 'art of war' was written by martian 2.5 thousands ago.

American did a research on the best caliber for rifle bullet. they come up with a caliber very close to the Chinese caliber of 5.8mm. However this Chinese design is not good for all branchs of soldier. So there is a new design based on the 5.8 caliber but look similar to AK47. Talking about AK47, just let them think the Chinese are so stupid they have to copy the AK47 again.

While we are on the topic of 5.8mm bullets:

I saw a Chinese military expert (an officer in the PLA) stating, during an interview, that the 5.8mm bullet is better suited against opponents with body armor since the bullet will "tumble" after it strikes and penetrates the armor. It is more likely for the bullet to go straight through human flesh if the target is unarmored. Has this been discussed on this board?

Yes its been discussed. It'll still be lethal and can kill. But if its hit in the non important organs the recovery time is much faster compared to 5.56. Though when soldier is armored its extremely lethal round, compared to 5.56 which frags mostly before reaching the flesh.
