They are still trying but you can't intercept BM with F-35s...

You see, that is bullcrap right there.

I'd get not handing over the aircraft which Turkey paid for, but demanding even rent for the storage of said aircraft and kicking Turkey out of the whole program, removal of Turkish industrial participation, very well seems to point otherwise.

It wasn't a temporary decision, it was a permanent one. the US wanted to alienate Turkey and push them to the other camp. They did it knowing how Turkey would react, they also supported groups in ME that threatened Turkish internal security and looked the other way.

That's one of the worst cases of gaslighting I've ever seen. Push your allies around, threaten their national security and then demand them to be on your side when you need them the most.

The US supported the Kurds in Northern Iraq as opposition to Saddam. They also support the Kurds in Syria. This goes against Turkish interests in the region. Kurdish autonomy destabilizes the whole region. Not that the US minds. This is actually a long term US and Israeli project.

Germany blocked sales of Leopard 2 upgrades to Turkey at the same time they sent the Panzerfaust 3 ATGM to Kurdish militias in Syria. Germany being a country which supposedly wouldn't send weapons to a country at war. Yet they seem to have no qualms sending weapons to Ukraine or Kurds in Syria. Which last I heard weren't in NATO either.

Clearly SAM systems are way more important for interception of standoff weapons than F-35 or any fighter. It's wishfull thinking that fighter aircrafts will be on station and armed to the teeth to intercept BM, cruise missiles and so on all day long and be good at it. If we take Greece, Aegan sea is just 250 km wide... even fighters on the other side will be illuminated with long range SAM systems on a portion of the country, F-35 will have more leverage against them but the amount of AA missiles it can carry internally is minimal.

Culling s400 SAM system for F-35 is nonsense. In that case Turkey would need something else to replace S-400 for sure. Pushing to sell some Patriot again ?
