The War in the Ukraine

Rule number 3 is very difficult to self-implement and unnecessarily stifles grander discussions. It turns this tread into a slightly more in-depth twitter thread.

The rest of the rules I agree with.
At the beginning of war months ago, Deino locked down this thread due to political contents. Members got angry and demanded re-opening, loosening of rules and more mods. Now mods are more or less again banning political contents in this thread. We have come full circle.

Nope. We have seen discussions that only cited historical events and didn’t require politics at all. Plus, having seen the political and grand “discussions”, I have my doubts. Please don’t be impulsive and since this is an official moderator response, please do not reply.

Deino didn’t want even want us to discuss the military activities of the war. That caused us members to protest against his decision. Do not get it twisted. Now, let’s return to the topic on hand.

More mods were definetely needed.
Deino was against any war discussion at all (which generated a lot of pushback as people found it unreasonable).

Now about the political comments thing, ideally the political commentary should be reasonable (not "nuke the west"), limited to the war (not "hurr Russia will stop gas exports and increase western inflation"), also political comments shouldnt derail the thread with multiple back and forth discussions.

As you can see, these requirement can get quite subjective which means that these rules would be difficult to enforce and probably why they are getting banned (again).

Anyway, move on. The current state of the thread is much better than what it was some months ago

Should the political comments from traslated or english telegram accounts be removed leaving only the military parts of the post?.

I have been here long enough. When discussions got heated, mods lock down threads temporarily all the time. It allows members some time to cool off. Usually threads are reopened after a few days.
No political discussion in military threads. The Mods allowed some political discussion on some threads to let people get off steam.

Read SampanViking's first post of the thread

It is a Military Operation thread dealing with:
Strategy
Tactics
Events/Movements on the Battlefield
Equipment used and its performance
Debunking propaganda and false claims using actual battlefield based evidence

Since you are not using mods colour, I am replying.

  • This is a military forum. Non-military topics belong in the provided off-topic forums. Politics and ideology are not a part of "off topic" posts, they are not what SD is about and we discourage them heavily..

Citations are fine as long as they are used to discuss a military matter such as using the news of Ukrainians receiving armaments from the US to discuss whether or not this will change Ukraine or Russia's strategies; discussions about the political aspect of such news aren't allowed.

A year or two ago, the moderators allowed politics and economics to be discussed in certain areas as long as users don't discuss it in the technical threads. The rules have changed. Now, like I said before, please go back to the topic on hand.

In addition, If anybody has questions, please post them here and mention our names using the @ symbol . If anybody has concerns, message one of us directly, and we will address them asap.
