Lisichansk is going to be a fortress. But it will be encircled and ultimately the Ukrainian grouping will be annihilated.
Rivers are quite impressives fortifications, doing beachhead in the middle of a fortified Lisichansk city is nonsense. It will be encirclement and maybe we will see carpet bombing if they can concentrate Ukrainian troops enough.

Neil Hauer has a slight Ukraine bias, but overall he's okay and he gets my respect for actually being on the ground in Ukraine rather than reporting from Twitter Oblast. Here's his take

My understanding is up to this point the Ukrainian government has reinforced the Donbas pocket with at least seven Territorial Defense Forces brigades. As we've seen so far these TDF formations lack the mechanization to allow them to be used for mobile warfare but for staying still and holding the line they're better than nothing (as long as you don't care about lost Ukrainian lives).

Don't know about the withdraw, but in the last 24 hours Russians counterattacked the Ukrainian Severodonetsk counterattack and took all the lost ground and more, including Mizhnarodnyy Aeroport to the south east. Basically the Severodonetsk counterattack has turned out to be feeding once again. On that note I asked someone who plays DotA exactly what "feeding" means and he explains during a game the team of five is meant to communicate and work together. When it's time to pounce on the other team the five players should work together and show up to the battlefield at exactly the same time, preferably from multiple directions. When the conditions are not right and not all five are in position the others already in position are meant to avoid the enemy team.

Feeding happens when one team is working in unison and the other team is not and their players show up one after another in piecemeal fashion. They are then easily defeated in a string of 5v1 engagement in a classed defeat in detail.

When this metaphor is applied to this war what it means is instead of accumulating NATO military aid until you've gathered a few full strength armour brigades at Lviv, the Ukrainian are sending the military aid they are receiving into critical sectors as soon as they receive them, in piecemeal fashion and with little training against Russians who have local numerical and fire superiority. It's little wonder then these western gear are making little impact on the battlefield.

On the other hand it was also pointed out to me that if Ukrainian do the smart thing and train up proper armour brigades in Lviv, sooner or later all that noise will reach Russians who would be like "nice brigade you have going on there, be a shame if a Kalibr or five fall on them".

The dude replying probably thinks Poland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, etc., were part of the Soviet Union or something

War is raging since 3 months, Warsaw pact =/= SU, and the EU does only deplete its stock, they couldnt bother producing soviet models.

One would expect that stocks get depleted over time, dunno what the twitter army is crying now, if the complain they can happily fill up the ranks in donbass ...

There are now reports that Russians have captured Tatyanovka, crossing over the Seversky Donets river from Svyatogorsk.

This could be the predicted offensive against Slovyansk, specifically the middle prong. The other two possible directions are from the west from Izyum direction along the highway and from the east from Lyman direction across the river. There are only something like 4 brigades in and around Slovyansk last I heard so if Ukrainians want to rush troops into this breech they're going to have to weaken their position somewhere else in the pocket.

Some NATO members like Bulgaria and Poland retain the capacity to make Warsaw Pact munitions. I think the two countries have been supplying 152mm shells to Ukraine. The production ability exists but I don’t know whether it can meet Ukrainian demands since thousands or sometimes even ten thousand shells are used by both sides daily.

This youtube video goes over briefly where all the NATO weapons are going.

In summary, they're going to Ukraine to be sold on the black market or used as giant paperweights.

They're saying the American attitude of "mo' guns mo' betta" is leading to the same situation in Ukraine.

For my thoughts on if this is a good idea, see literally every single school shooting in the States.
