The War in the Ukraine

I often see vids of drones hunting alerted individuals but they seem to have nothing to effectively swat the drone down. My understanding there are also devices being deploy to alert of approaching drones as well. Any reason why we don't see shotguns being handed out on either side?

Distributing hundreds of thousands of shotguns along the front line would be a significant logistical challenge IMO. Also, it does make the baggage train even longer and more annoying. Soldiers already have a lot of crap to carry during an assault. Adding a shotgun could potentially be extremely annoying despite drone strikes being a relatively common occurrence.

On the other hand, underbarrel shotguns could simplify this, but they also interfere with ergonomics + from what I understand, long barrel shotguns are the preferred tool.

Personally I think a better solution would be mass issue of specialist grenade rounds/mini launchers like the XM 18-22, which shoots 18 22lr rounds out of a standard 40mm under barrel grenade launcher.

The Ukrainians probably don’t use them because of the ridiculous cost and comically low availability numbers, but I’m pretty sure you can find any number of manufacturers in China who can pump out clones in silly numbers at affordable prices. Especially if these are only rated to be single use disposable rather than being reloadable.

Rate of fire might be low, but each of the 22lr rounds will have its own barrel (rifling optional), the range should be pretty respectable since spread will be minimal.

The benefit of this system is that you can use it with standard issue UBGLs, so the costs of issue will be minimal from both a budget and weight pov.

Since there will already be soldiers from each squad who have UBGLs as standard issue, you can roll this out en mass in a very short timeframe. And all your grenadiers will still be able to use regular grenades so there is very little opportunity cost other than monetary.

You can catch a tiny moment of the winged glide bomb just before it strikes this Ukrainian military facility in Kupyansk.

This very well hidden M777 has been annoying the Russians until one critical mistake, the Russian UAV spotted a transport supplying it and tracked to its location. There an X-51 Lancet finds and takes it out. Usage of the long wingspan Lancet indicates the location of the M777 to be of considerable range from the frontline, which also makes it harder to spot.

Uragans from the 20th Army of Group West (Zapad with the Z marking) strike a Ukrainian stronghold. This is a good footage to evaluate the accuracy of non guided Uragans and it appears fairly concentrated.

Something like that could probably work, seen them before with 3 x no3 or no4 round balls for 7,62x39 :
