"Ukrainians, having given up their nuclear deterrence ..."

"their" (!?)

OMFG. Even the simplest facts of history are falsified by the Western narrative. Weapons of the USSR

The gigantic effort Russia made to be accepted by Western Europe was clearly to no avail. As Gorvachev said, "we thought we were among normal people."

I see your counter offensive on Kherson and raise you a counter offensive on Sumy.
On the topic of Kherson counterattack:
Russian forces deploying mines at shores of Inhulets river to prevent possible offensive of Ukrainian forces. Russian aviation conducted airstrikes near Davydiv Brid of Kherson region, - General Staff of Armed Forces of Ukraine says in the evening report
This says to me Russian have pushed the Ukrainian counteroffensive back across to the west bank of the Inhulets River and have mined their side of it. Doesn't make that much sense to mine other stretches of the river if Ukrainian already control a bridge head at Davydiv Brid.

Seems Russia hit the railway tunnel that connects Slovakia with Western Ukraine. Better late than ever, I guess, and should slow down weapons deliveries somewhat.

Interesting piece from the perspective of british foreing fighters that went to Ukraine which, by their own words, makes it hard to reconcile this narrative the west was trying to push of Ukrainian victory since the begining. Talks of no command structure at all, no OPSEC, barely any logistics at all for most units.

On the other hand, it also shows how most westeners who signed up, veterans or not, went there to play-pretend. The moment they were told they would be sent to the front lines and started to face artillery and missile barrages, they would bail out.

Let's wait and see guys. Jumping to "Ukraine's army is about to disintegrate" from Severodonetsk is about a day or has already fallen smacks of the very same thing you were (rightly) calling out early in the war with posting wildly pro Ukrainian tweets/fan boy links.

Both sides are suffering pretty badly right now. Logistics in and out of the pocket are not going to be good for the Ukrainians. And some Russian units are going to be pushed (for at time) up to and possibly past the breaking point. I totally believe some Ukrainians are losing morale in there. They need a break if nothing else. Likewise, some doofus of a Russian soldier might get ugly with a general when pushed past a certain point. Small sample sizes are dangerous to extrapolate from.

As for Himars, the US is providing some. Who knows how many. We will get to see how effective those are. It sounds like there more howitzers also going in the latest round and supposedly...

Let's see how true that ends up being. It could also be a balloon to see how Russia reacts.
I understand you are cautious but let’s be real since Phase 2 started Russia has had the momentum in the Donbas. And I get there is plenty of fight left but let’s be realistic you think the Ukrainian grouping in Donbas can handle this level of intensive shelling, aerial and missile bombardment for another 45-60 days? They are just starting to buckle. We are seeing defensive positions simply being given up. They are taking horrific loses.
We have had video after video of Ukrainian soldiers refusing to fight because they are getting massacred. And this is the most battle hardened and most equipped fighters of the Ukrainian military. The Russian military has had blunders here and there but they have shown flexibility and learn from their mistakes quickly. Ukraine’s political leadership is telling their men to stand and fight until “help” comes. And it has been documented that Kiev is sending poorly trained and equipped Territorial Defense fighters to the front. Basically light infantry armed only with AKs, machine guns, rpgs and some atgms in a theater where it’s an artillery duel facing Russian tanks.

I get there is plenty of fight to go on. Lisichansk is a fortress now. Sits on a hill and now has 12,000 fighters in it. It will be a bloody slog but at this rate it may fall within 30 days. Russians are masters of encirclement.
Regarding the Reaper Drone I’ll say this Iran has shot down even more advanced US drones in the past with their air defense systems. Russia is the master of air defense systems. These drones have had no experience being deployed in a contested air space against an enemy that have aerial superiority. It’s one thing to use them in Afghanistan and Iraq against an enemy that has no air force or air defense systems. It’s very likely Washington knows Kiev isn’t gonna win so they want to look like their doing something for chicken hawks in Congress. The domestic mood is starting to turn here in America. Gas prices, inflation has made Biden historically unpopular.

It just occurred to me that the best way to mine the river would be to mine it on the far side/arrival side of the river where the enemy is expected to cross. The enemy can take their sweet time to clear the mines in the near side then cross the river, however they don't have the same luxury on the far side since they'd be fighting to establish a bridgehead

Just my 2 cents, not sure how it applies to current situation. I wonder if it is possible Ukrainian front overextend to a degree making it possible for Russians to exact encirclement by blocking their way back
