The War in the Ukraine

I find quite strange that the S-200, a contemporary, is used like MLRS while the hawk for anti-air, newer stockpiles ?

Hawk is far more mobile. While S-200 requires extensive static sites to deploy. The missile is also liquid fueled which add to more complexity in handling. Ukraine clearly cant use it for air defense. It will just be deleted very quickly.

basically preparing S-200 is just like preparing scud launch. The thing however since the missile is basically stored in mothballed condition. and unfueled, it can last forever as long as appropriate propellant can be manufactured and shipped.

Considering the S-200 size comparing it to HAWK
I think it does makes sense, for them sacrificing S-200 in favour of HAWK.

S-200 only capable against large slow targets and from what i heard only usable for AWACS hunting, against any normal fighter jets even from the 3rd generations would be extremely hard

The officer's vigilance saved AVVAKUL graduates from death
23.10.2023

The Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine tried to carry out another terrorist attack on Russian territory, sending by courier to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the next graduation from the Armavir Higher Military Pilot School (AVVAKUL) a huge 20-kilogram cake and several boxes of strong alcohol, laced with a potent poison, reports TG channel Fighterbomber.

77 graduates of the school in 2003, who are currently active pilots in serious positions and ranks, came to the banquet in Armavir. Unaware of the diabolical “Trojan horse” presented to them, the stunned audience took selfies and shared photos in closed groups of their classmates with gratitude for the gift. At the same time, of course, everyone was interested to find out who this generous donor of such a magnificent dessert and drinks was, and to drink to his health. The banquet went on as usual, however, the names of the donors remained a mystery.

One of the responsible officers present at the banquet decided to send his superiors a photo of the courier from the CCTV camera who delivered the cake and alcohol to the restaurant. An operational check showed that a person similar to the courier is a native of Melitopol. At the same time that his security check was underway, he bought a plane ticket, but he was detained before he left Russia.

“He immediately told everything,” writes Fighterbomber, “about the cake with a potent poison, which bottles he bought in addition, and which were poisoned immediately. And how did he know the number of guests and where the holiday would take place? Even the HABACUL emblem was drawn to the current. The cake was made from scratch in Armavir. They are looking for the confectioners now.”

The vigilance and consciousness of the officer saved them from disaster. They had already cut the cake, but the alcohol had not been opened and they did not have time to consume it with dessert.

Earlier, on October 3, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation charged in absentia the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Kirill Budanov, with committing terrorist acts on Russian territory.

"A group of special forces arrives in the area of combat operations and secretly goes to the forest belt to conduct raids and sabotage on the front line. Closest to the front line is a sniper pair, conducting reconnaissance of firing points, sniper beds and UAV take-off sites. Sometimes snipers have to work at a distance of up to 250 m from the enemy, which increases the effectiveness of missions. Including disrupting enemy rotations on the front line.

▪️ Also, as part of the special forces brigade, UAV reconnaissance aircraft and "kamikaze drones" are active. UAV groups are among the first to enter the area of missions, reconnoitring the terrain, escorting assault groups and destroying enemy equipment and strongholds."

What a disaster.

A Western army would launch airmobile assault forces into the rear of the AFU(always carried out in areas weakly or not defended by the enemy), carry out artillery attacks, then descend infantry landing forces(always within artillery range of the superior unit ) to carry out attacks from behind, after the infantry disembarked, the helicopters could perform other combat missions (combat support missions and logistical support missions, among others), all this coordination to provide support and conditions for the armored vehicles to be able to advance (a maneuver that the Russians are trying and losing dozens of armored vehicles).

It's not Afghanistan or veitnam.
No western army has faced the defences that either side have in modern times.
Assuming the choppers made it past madpads deployed around the front line, the choppers range would probably drop the troops somewhere between the local reserve and the strategic reserve.

No matter how special the troops might be, they would be surrounded with no chance of resupply.

A bit like VDV at Hostomel military Airport in the first few days of the war.

At this stage of the war both sides have probably contemplated any tatic one can dream up/

Politico --- All the world's weapons production capacities are not enough to cover Kyiv's needs in the current conflict, - Minister of Strategic Industries of Ukraine

"▪️Minister of Strategic Industries of Ukraine Oleksandr Kamyshin calls on Western countries to speed up the production of missiles, shells and military drones. According to him, Ukraine is trying to increase the production of armored vehicles, ammunition and air defense systems and wants Western partners to invest in it.
"The free world must produce enough to defend itself," Ukraine's strategic industries minister Kamyshin said during a mission to the German capital to persuade arms manufacturers to invest in war-ravaged Ukraine. "That's why we have to produce more and better weapons to stay safe."
