The War in the Ukraine

Number 12 should *never* have to be relearned. The bureaucrats in charge ignored their military advisors.
In a recent PCL-181 video from CCTV, there's a bonus video at the end where a company commander has his troops watch a Korean War film and then asks if war breaks out today and they're ordered to provide fire support, what should they do. The soldiers provided various answers, like ensuring proper maintenance, accurate fire, etc., and the company commander says the answer is "ensuring sufficiency", that only with sufficient shells and barrels can they provide fire support. The scene looks staged, but the point is all the same. Logistics is priority number one.

I've been skeptical of Krasnopol strike claims. Does the Orlan have a laser designator now?

Not just Orlan 30, as someone mentioned, but a new version of the Orlan-10 referred to as the Orlan-10M. Skeptical? They are all over and everywhere.

Unrelated. Added to save post count.

More Ukrainian tank and APC remains.

BTR-4 and MT-LB abandoned after area was showered by Russian MLRS near Artemovsky.

This time, a MiG-29 manages to shoot down a Geran without taking down itself.

Caesar 155mm being used.

Russians have added a new spotter drone to their arsenal called Albatros.

I find the analysis by the Apache pilot interesting, there is an analysis by Leopard gunner before this as well.

From what I can tell, there is really no effective way of defending against such attacks, the missiles are launched at a range of 10-12km away, at this range, the helicopter is outside the detection range both the naked eye and thermal cameras. On top of that, it is outside of the range of all known NATO SHORAD systems.

Perhaps we might even see the development of a new Generation of NATO SHORAD systems in response to this, but I doubt they care that much about the experience of their client state.

Russian T-90 tank survives Ukrainian artillery barrage, levels a Ukrainian position with HE fire, then gets away with it.

Carnage wrought by the 40th Marine Brigade of the Russian Pacific Far East Fleet and obtf Kaskad, leaving many abandoned and destroyed vehicles at Vremsky Ledge. An Oshkosh is towed away by Russian tank. Summary and compilation of separate videos over the past few days into a narrative.

Evacuation vehicles like this Samaritan, are caught in the carnage.

If you have Tors, Pantsyrs and Buks, the problem won't exist. Tors up to 16km, Pantsyrs up to 18km, Buks up to 40 or 50km. Maybe they should have asked for Crotales.

I have my doubts regarding the effectiveness of shorad against such low flying targets, I'd imagine what's truly needed here is AWACs as helicopter can't hide using the terrain from above. From there they can direct longer ranged GBAD.

AWACS uses very long frequency radar for maximum range. However these radars have poor resolution and do not differentiate or resolve tiny targets at tree height where X band radars do best.

The best you can do is put a GBAD with an X band search and fire control radar at a height, like high ground or on top of a pole or building.

6. Ground forces cannot manoeuvre with GBAD including CUAS systems

Maybe true for NATO systems, but not for Russian forces. Tor can fire on the move. Armies on the move can shift alternate Buk systems from on alert to on-the-move.
Wait, I thought that Tor can only fire when stationary.
EDIT:NVM, apparently its just the older versions that need to be stationary.
