The War in the Ukraine

what gives you the confidence that they would do any better against a modern Western system?

That's the thing, the Patriot isn't that modern, at least not particularly the type the Ukrainians will receive.

If Ukraine receives the PAAC-4 with 250km range Stunner missiles, which is what the formidable David's Sling uses, Russia will be in for a lot of hurt.

Have you missed every Israeli comunique stating that they won't be delivering anything to Ukraine?. Then there is the fact that the PAAC-4 never moved forward because they didn't secure the funding after Poland didn't pick the system for its air defence. So we might as well talk about the Ukranians receiving F-35's.

As has been the the trend with the majority of deliveries of used equipment from western stocks, it is likely they will receive PAC-2 at best, PAC-1 if there is any left at worst.

While the Patriot comes with a single organic radar, it has demonstrated network centric capability with missile cuing by external radars like AN/TPY-2.
Only the PAC-3 has network capablity and they are a no go because as mentioned before, they are key against China in the pacific.

Ukrainian Grad MLRS was found by this Russian UAV at high altitude (Forpost? Mojaher 6? Eleron 3? Orlan 30? Orlan 10?). The Grad was quickly treated with a Krasnopol.

Lancet takes out a 35D6M radar and possibly the P-18 radar beside it.

Some rumors indicate that the VDV would be preparing to carry out a night offensive towards Sarny and Kovel with some possibility of Kiev and Chernigov also being targets of this hypothetical offensive, the rumors point to the 24/25 of December.

impossible, an attack in this sector has no strategic value. it only works if russia is able to drive straight to lviv. but we know it cant so it wont happen. russia has no aerial advantage in this part of the country attacking here is suicide.

That's exactly what I thought with some other considerations, but different sources have already spoken about a hypothetical offensive, didn't say where or when, just said it will be soon.

Add to that the AN/MPQ-65A GaN AESA and Russia will be up against a qualitatively different threat. The only saving grace is that Ukraine will get just one battery.
Yes. And I will space drop in a Starship on Zelensky's lawn with my trusty H&K G11 rifle.

No such system was ever manufactured and put into service.
And if Israel exports their air defense technology to Ukraine, then Syria will get the Iskander, and other things like that. Good luck.

Dunno why you guys underestimate the Patriot system. It has been extensively tested in Saudi Arabia against all sorts of nice toys that Iran gave to Yemen.

That Saudi Arabia is happily using it and actually requests more and more missiles from the US to stock up, says to me that for what it does, it does it well

I am sure Russia won't be as dismissive of its arrival to Ukraine as some people are

Has anyone read the recent New York Times piece on catastrophe that was the Russian invasion?

They got hold of several interesting documents and testimonies. Lots of blame deflection and feigned ignorance of course by the interviewees. Apparently people watching CNN were better informed about the looming Russian offensive than many influential people in Russia:

“But in Russia, even among those with access to Mr. Putin or his inner circle, almost no one thought that the president was seriously considering a full-scale invasion, people close to the Kremlin said. They were sure he was bluffing.

Mr. Remchukov, the newspaper editor, was one of them. As the chairman of the 2018 election campaign of Mayor Sergei S. Sobyanin of Moscow — Mr. Putin’s former chief of staff — he felt well-connected enough to happily announce to his wife a week before the invasion, “Lena, there won’t be a war!”

“Mr. Peskov, Mr. Putin’s spokesman, insisted that he found out about the invasion only once it had begun. Likewise, Anton Vaino, Mr. Putin’s chief of staff, and Aleksei Gromov, Mr. Putin’s powerful media adviser, also said they did not know in advance, according to people who spoke to them about it.”

The best that senior aides could do was to try to read Mr. Putin’s body language. Some reported with concern that “he’s got this warlike twinkle in his eyes,” a person close to the Kremlin said.”

Wow so much definitive insider info. They just can't name names. It must be true since NTY wrote it from additional sources which they can't name.

What I gathered from this was that at least the people in the know managed to keep it a secret even from those who thought they were close.
