Even if it meant they were going to die as well? The US does have a rather large nuclear stockpile. There's something very wrong with you if you believe China could survive a nuclear holocaust and yet totally wipe out every other nuclear power in the world.
Its doubtful the US would intervene, but even if the US does, its not going to deter China from invading once secession is declared.
If American are that stupid to intervene, China doesn't need to fight.
We arm the whole Muslim world with nukes, and somebody will do the jobs for us.

As I said, Taiwan means nuclear war, it's an active option.
