Seems you really don't understand sports. I actually don't follow swimming and I don't watch interviews for behind the scenes information. But I do watch weightlifting. When you ask, "What could have gone wrong?" I immediately thought of 3 weightlifting events. 1 where the Chinese world champ and world record holder suddenly dropped because he had sudden muscle cramps in the warm up room, the second when a female Chinese lifter miraculously defended her title despite experiencing an unexpected fever, and the last where a world record holder pulled out mid comp because he was feeling dizziness and light-headed. Athletes' bodies are primed for performance so you might not know, they often have compromised daily functions such as immunity. A lot of things can suddenly happen to an athlete and they can be cleared up if the athlete is immediately put to rest but they can quickly expand into horrible problems if the athlete is made to fight and perform through it.What could have gone wrong with her after the 200m freestyle heats? Li Bingjie who skipped the 200m freestyle and then showed up healthy in the 200m freestyle relay, was similar to Messi who skipped Hong Kong match, and then showed up healthy in Japan match.
It was all part of a plan.
I've already stated once before that the main reason that I don't think they were conserving energy is that you don't need 3 days to recover from a 200m swim. You have no rebuttal to that and you're just trying to work around it basically trying to save your hypothesis rather than come up with an unbiased view based on the facts.
