Maritime Exercise SEAGULL Series 05/12

MUARA NAVAL BASE, Monday 19 November 2012 - The Royal Brunei Navy and the Philippine Navy will be conducting a combined naval exercise code-named Maritime Training Activity (MTA) SEAGULL 05/12 on 19 - 25 November 2012. This is the fifth in the series of bilateral engagements between both navies, which is held bi-annually. The Royal Brunei Navy will be host to this year's event and all military activities will be conducted in Negara Brunei Darussalam.

This year, two ships from the Royal Brunei Navy. KDB SYAFAAT and KDB AFIAT, will be joined by two patrol ships from the Philippine Navy namely BRP ARTEMIO RICARTE (PS-37) and BRP GENERAL MARIANO ALVAREZ (PS-38). The exercise will involve almost 150 personnel from both navies.

PT. Royal Advanced Fiber (RAF Boats) was displaying itsVITESSE Mark II Interceptor boat during IndoDefence 2012. The VITESSE Mark II is a high speed military delta conic airventilated triple step hull interceptor type vessel. It was designed following a special request from Indonesian Special Forces for Anti-terror and interception missions.

PZL-Świdnik, an AgustaWestland company, is pleased to announce that the second batch of Sokol helicopters in combat utility configuration has been delivered to the Philippine Air Force.

The two additional helicopters follow the four Sokols delivered by PZL-Świdnik to the customer in February 2012. The second batch of Sokols are part of a contract signed with the Philippine Air Force in 2010. The contract includes a total of eight Sokol helicopters plus ground support equipment, spare parts, support services and training for aircrew and maintainers. The remaining two helicopters will be delivered in early 2013.

The two helicopters, produced in Świdnik, were transported from Jasionka Airport near Rzeszow to Clark Air Base near Manila onboard one of the world’s largest cargo airplanes - An-124 Ruslan.

Philippines Extends Military Modernization Law for Further 15 Years

Philippine President Benigno Aquino signed into law on 11 December measures extending the modernisation of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) for a further 15 years and the allocation of PHP75 billion (USD1.8 billion) for defence procurement over the next five years.

The legislation, Republic Act (RA) No. 10349, also formally establishes processes that are geared to accelerate the AFP's acquisition of materiel by enhancing the efficiency and accountability of military procurement practices.

A very bad accident happen on board of Singapore Landing Ship Tank and a serviceman was critically injured.

An update of the news showed that the serviceman lost both legs, one arm and the remaining arm only had two fingers still intact.

May be recover well and soldier on in future.
