The ship isn't made to take it like a punching bag, its made to get in, attack & get out.

Wow. How is the warship going to survive a battle if it burns so easily?

Well... actually we still do not know what went wrong that caused the ship to burn that badly. In actuality, it might not come to that.

Anyway like what Xigwin had mentioned, the ship was actually a gunboat and so was not design to take a punch like a destroyer or a frigate. I am pretty sure, the main asset of the ship was its 'invisibility' to radar (making it like a small boat in the radar) and so able to get into range fast, strike and get out before things get too hot.

Hmm... however according to Manila Standard Today, the military had denied sending 800 marines to the disputed islands, and instead only around 77 officers (mostly women) had been deployed.

Estrella explained that there were only 77 officers and personnel, mostly female, who arrived in Palawan on September 28, and were ordered to augment other staff members of the “administrative and construction teams”.

Philippines having learned their lesson last time are trying to avoid another banana restriction I guess...

Nah... They only need to maintain a small presence on the Islands in order to assert their claim on the Spratly.

I don't think the Philippines has enough space on all its islands to support 800 people in total, let along 800 more. They have one medium island, Pagasa (I think that's its name), which has a long runway and few dozen houses, and a few small islands.

Most composite materials consist of inorganic fiber ( glass fiber, fire proof ) or organic fiber ( carbon, as in this case, aramid, flax, cotton etc., not fire proof ) and plastic that is basically not fire proof. You can add fire retardants, but a good fuel fire will still consume your structure.
But don't forget under the right circumstances aluminum is also a fire hazard.
Yes, the US learned this lesson on the Stark in the 1980s...and now has forgotten it again with the LCS. I know they hope the speed will help, as well as stealth and EW...but still, a war ship has to assume it is at some point going to take some hits. It has to be designed to do so and not burn to the waterline if it does.

Here's a video of it:
