Looks like Saudis are totally blowing up US efforts to pull them together with Israel. Great going for China
Saudi Arabia can only recognise Israel without consequences, if the Palestinians give their approval. The Saudi ambassador is probably just there to find out how much Saudi money and autonomy from Israel it will take to buy Palestinian assent.

If Palestine approves, it will be hard to portray recognition of Israel as a betrayal of the Palestinians. Even Iran is going to accept it under those circumstances, even if they might publicly condemn the Palestinian stupidity

The vision for Saudi Arabia is firmly non aligned, they currently want peace with both Iran and Israel. If Trump returns, they want to be ready to work with America again. Saudi Arabia won't take China's side as long as they still have the American option

Because most of Saudi Arabia assets, trade and wealth are monetized in US dollar, it takes many years to diversify those assets without alarming the Americans. Joining BRICS give them an option so they're hedging which is for their National Interest.

Impossible for Palestine to approve.

Impossible for Palestine to approve.
Impossible for the Palestinian people, not impossible for Mahmoud Abbas, if he gets enough bribes

The position of the Saudi royal family is precarious. They can't risk a popular uprising. So they can't be seen to be stabbing the Palestinians in the back. But if Abbas says it's ok, he can pay the political price for it

There is no major global issue on which India is a leading voice and on which the world (and especially the global south) can look at India as a moral leader. So, India has no public voice on the Palestinian issue. I haven’t heard them say much about the destruction of Libya or Syria. Or Ukraine. They try to cover for it by saying that theh do “what is best in the interest of India”. But that is why the do not have the front seat on any global issue, however much they want to get to that.

China and Saudi Arabia will conduct a joint naval military drill in October, the Chinese Defense Ministry announced on Thursday.

The military exercise, called “Blue Sword 2023,” will be held in Zhanjiang city of South China’s Guangdong province, a ministry spokesman told a press briefing, Global Times reported.

Both nations had previously conducted collaborative naval exercises in 2019, according to the official Saudi Press Agency.

This crisp assessment argues that the Chinese leadership’s proposal to build a community of common destiny for mankind presents an alternative vision for the world order. In order to achieve this objective, Beijing is seeking to bring about fundamental institutional and normative changes to global governance. It is within this context that Chinese President Xi Jinping has launched the Global Development Initiative (GDI), Global Security Initiative (GSI) and Global Civilisation Initiative (GCI). Analysing the speeches by Chinese leaders, policy publications, media and analytical discourse in China, along with actual policy decisions, this assessment provides a SWOT analysis of current geopolitical churn from Beijing’s perspective. It then places the launch of GDI, GSI and GCI within this context, before detailing the elements of each initiative and distilling their stated and implicit agenda. The assessment concludes that the launch of these initiatives presages a far more proactive foreign policy approach by Beijing. Through GDI, GSI and GCI, the Chinese leadership hopes to shape an external environment that not only ensures regime security but is also favourable for China’s development and security interests. In doing so, however, it is reshaping key norms of global governance towards a fundamentally illiberal direction.

My thoughts on when peak gasoline and peak oil may be reached. After going through math, it may take longer unless we get a sudden surge in EV sales due to people dumping ICE cars
While China still has room for more petro imports because of its petrochemical industry, reaching peak demand this early is not good tidings for China-Saudi relations. They pivoted to China because they thought they could count on China being their largest customer for many years into the future. This could explain some of the Saudi foreign policy stance wobbling back towards the US.

I think Saudis also need something from china for a long term future, like salt tolerant crops which china has to compete with Israel.

this Israel/Hamas situation could possibly sink the Saudi-US negotiation, because the right wing govt is likely to go very extreme here and make it impossible for Saudi govt to go along with a normalization with Israel
