Did someone want a carrier-borne J-20?
MiG scale model team to your services.

Ironically enough, MiG 1.42 vibes are clearly visible on this model...

Interesting how they kept the ventral strokes despite not having all-moving vertical slabs. I don’t think the J-20 would’ve kept them had that been the case. Also, they canards are not at the same level as the main wings, which can increase radar returns even if not moving.

And 米格 also decided to spoil somewhat Sukhoi's triumph, and propose (a scale model of) an alternative light fighter.
So are all these just some models in the computer or what?

Because I cant see how Russia could afford so many programs at the same time

No offence to the Russian engineers but Russia has a poor record "translating" their numerous pretty aircraft models to real production-ready aircraft.

Why, do you think J-15s from Liaoning or Shandong can stand a chance about Checkmates? Or those J-11Bs from artificial islands stand a chance against Checkmates?
With corresponding upgrade, within air defense/radar network of the fleet, supplemented by loyal wingmen?
Yes, certainly.

Is this sarcasm?

That's almost as ridiculous as saying upgraded F/A-18E Super Hornet Block II's can defeat 5th gen J-35's.

A gen 4+++ upgraded J-15 cannot defeat Checkmate, not matter how many "++++++" signs you add to it. Also, if airplanes can only operating with air-defense/radar network of the fleet, that is limits the effective range of aircraft strike capabilities.

Thanks for proving that J-15's are hobbled in operational range against Checkmates.

Okay I suppose China can't take on Vietnam airforce Checkmates. China better do something quick before 24 Checkmates in Vietnamese colours destroy PLAAF and PLANAF 4th gens in the entire region.

Can we please stop discussing this point now like Deino has already asked?

It depends. I personally think they're aimed at India (more specifically - at TEDBF).

With potential paying customer (if one appears), and leveraging equipment already developed - why not? Especially since they didn't bring it out from nowhere - they have both deck fighter experience (2 generations of one) and developed aerodynamics(new model is clearly related to the 1.44)

Proposing a reasonable hedge to Indian Navy in case their own project(first ever of this kind) fails is a reasonable option. Not very likely to happen - but there is a small but reasonable potential market for this plane.

In a reasonable situation - yes, they can?
Hope I haven't offended any church of generational religion by saying this.
