I wouldn’t even necessarily call it an expose.

Although the aircraft is similar in structure and design to the American project, which unlike the “Checkmate” aircraft never left the drawing board I’m sure it will most certainly boast different characteristics and capabilities. [Think AV-8 and the YAK-38]

I think what is important here is that a substantial amount of money has been put into a program that isn’t a simply redesign of an existing airframe which has the potential capability of changing or reinforcing power structures and projections in developing militaries across the globe.

So although you may write-it off for now it is something to look at going forward for its potential implications.
If you’d look back several posts, I’ve been the one consistently raising questions about those very implications. However, the fact that these guys can’t even accomplish a “reveal” presentation on schedule ain’t fosterin’ much confidence.

And, calling this thing “Check-Mate” is an insult to even a novice Chess-player; more like e-2, e-4!

This is beginning to resemble an Indian military procurement program.

, it will first fly in 2023, and planned deliveries in 5 years(2026?). Also says it's competing with Chinese fighters. Which one? Judging by price tag(30mill) I'm guessing JF-17? Also 30mill is fckin cheap for a 5th gen(assuming export price ofc)

Although, I'm guessing if it competes with a hypothetical J-31/35, it will be advantageous only in price if the capabilities of the J-31/35 is similar/close to that of F-35.

The fact that they haven’t been able to do the presentation is disappointing however you also have to look at their audience. [They we’re also doing presentations this morning for

I think calling it checkmate can either be symbolic [such as equipping proxies and potentially the VVS with relatively cheap “stealthy” fighters can be used to undermine opponents with numerical superiority] or it can be seen as a way to market their fighters to developing countries as a solution to meet their military needs for the foreseeable future. Something they’ve often proved to these countries during Soviet times.

I do believe it is unprofessional of them to state that they would be hosting an event at a certain time and then delaying it [twice now] however they had to give the President a presentation, and one does not give Putin a haphazard and half baked presentation. Also they have to consider if their indeed audience has arrived yet to the event, they won’t start the event until everything is perfectly lined up.

However I do understand your skepticism and it’s a good thing to remain skeptical. However given Russia’s track record we know that atleast something will be done with the project [unlike the Indians]

7400 KG empty is 2000 KG lighter than the J-10A. If true it should enjoy great kinematic performance even with AL-41.

God, if it $30 million dollars, then that's cheaper than JF-17 Block III? If true, Checkmate would erase the entire market of JF-17 overnight.

Potentially however I believe that customers who have already bought the JF-17 will stick with it for the foreseeable future. Where as Russia is attempting to market the checkmate is to nations that haven’t stuck there hand in the Chinese cookie jar yet. However the price will make it very competitive in the Asian market where Russia, China and the US all have an established presence.
