Transport Ministers of Russia and Iran Approve Industry Cooperation Plan for 2025​

During a working visit to Tehran, Russian Transport Minister Roman Starovoit held a meeting with Iranian Minister of Urban Development and Roads Farzaneh Sadegh, the Iranian Ports and Shipping Organization and Iranian Railways.

In particular, the issue of construction of the Rasht-Astara railway was discussed. What are Russia's rare earth metals ambitions?​

Russia's estimates of its overall rare earth reserves are higher.
According to the Natural Resources Ministry, Russia has reserves of 15 rare earth metals totalling 28.7 million tons as of January 1, 2023 and that 3.8 million tons is the amount of reserves under development or ready for development.
Russian official documents on the industry's development point to low domestic demand for the metals, as well as strong competition from China, as the main barriers to the industry's development.
Russia aims to become one of the top five rare earth metals producers with up to 12% of the global market share by 2030, according to its sector development strategy.

Only a few countries in the world have a full cycle of creating gas turbine engines, and the most loaded element of the engine is the turbine blade. The corresponding scientific and technical reserve has been created, which today allows us to obtain single-crystal blades. These are blades that actually consist of one crystal, and due to the internal cooling system, due to special heat-protective coatings, such a blade works at a gas temperature in front of the turbine up to 1950 Kelvin. These are the blades used in our modern Russian engine PD-14 for the MS-21 aircraft.

It should also be noted that the nacelle of this engine is 60 percent made of carbon fiber reinforced plastics. These materials were developed by young scientists from the Kurchatov Institute, and the development was awarded the Russian Government Prize.

Additive technologies for the PD-14 engine have found application. These technologies are used to manufacture swirlers for the combustion chamber front device.
At the Kurchatov Institute, cold-resistant steels have been created, which today allow the hulls of icebreakers to be made. These icebreakers can overcome ice more than four meters thick. Sealing materials, paints and varnishes, and functional materials have been developed that do not lose their elasticity and operate at temperatures down to minus 60 degrees Celsius.

Mikron’s photoresist for 90 nm technology is manufactured domestically. This initiative is a significant stride toward decreasing dependence on imported materials. This effort is a component of a broader initiative that involves more than 16 Russian manufacturers and research institutions to replace foreign components with local ones. The new photoresist is being manufactured in the Volga Federal District, a significant chemical production center in Russia that generates 40% of the nation’s chemical materials.​
