I had a really nice Browning Compound bow for a long time, but after my surgeries I sold it.

If you were going to go on such a hunt, I would not recommend hunting wolves, particularly if you're looking for a pack, with a bow of any type. Unless you were accompanied by someone with a good semi-automatic rifle.
Ah of course if I were to go and hunt wolves I'd go with a gun. The archery question was something on the side. I started archery almost a year ago and I'm planning on getting my first olympic recurve bow within this year.

Just a curious (funny) question: if "we" produce some "gloves" with three long blades on each glove (like Wolverine), do we have a chance to win the wolf or several wolves (4 or 5)?

Let's organize a SDF wolf hunting event ;);)

Do any of you guys do archery? (or play with crossbow)

archery? come on man you got to be kidding me:confused:, it's not the 17th century! get yourself an entry level bolt action rifle by savage arms or Remington in 30-06 (skip the fancy scope and use iron sights) that will stop any predator in north America wilderness!

Idaho Fish & Game officers tranquilized a bear found wandering around Boise's North End Thursday morning.

The Ada County Sheriff's Office said the male adult black bear was first spotted behind the Boise Veterans Administration Hospital on West Fort Street around 7:30 a.m.

The bear eventually wandered to the Fort Boise Military Reserve Park.

Jodi Meine was going for a morning run on Mountain Cove Road when she spotted a deputy with his gun drawn and then saw the bear coming off a nearby trail.

"I've seen snakes, fox, deer, but never a bear," said Meine. "That was a first."

It took several hours of "hide-and-seek" before deputies and wildlife officials were able to get close enough to safely tranquilize and capture the bear, said sheriff's spokesman Patrick Orr.

The bear will be taken to the Boise National Forest north of Lowman to be released.

Boise is a city of about 250,000 people. The largest city in the area or within 350 miles of here.

Here in Emmett (pop 5,000) abotu 25 miles from Boise, about 4 years ago, a friend of mine woke up one morning to find a brown bear in their back yard. He'd come down from the mountains that fall and was foraging in town. He too was tranquilized and hauled off.

But they are not firendly, lovable, cute creatures. They very easily would kill a pet or a small child...or even an adult if they were hungry enough or surprised.

About two years ago I saw a bear cub on my local bike path. It Crossed the path from left to right about 80 feet from me. I was behind a residential condominium complex. that surrounded a over grown wooded area. the cub was bout oh three foot from nose to tail. I froze and let it pass with out continuing until the cub was gone well aware that a cub is never far from a very very protective mother.

If I saw a cub like that, while biking unarmed on such a path, I would very slowly (at first) and very carefully and warily turn around and go the other way.

I would ensure that I did NOTHING that might put me between that mother (who, as you say, was definitely there somewhere) and her cub.

Those can be scary moments.

Once in Montana I was up surveying some property I had bought in the Ruby Range, east of Dillon Montana. I had run up there one day after work, got out of my truck, and walked up a draw towards the property. In my haste, I did not take my rifle, and I did not have my dog with me. This was about 17 years ago.

Going up that draw, I had to walk through about 1/4 mile of fairly thick willows. As I did so, the wind shifted a moment and I smelled a very fresh "kill," probably a deer or elk...and it was very close nearby. All of the birds and bugs had gone silent and the hair came up on my neck.

I knew I was being watched, and from not far away.

I stopped...but could not see anything.

A bear or cougar could have been within 20 feet of me and I would not have seen it. Very slowly and carefully, I began walking backwards, one step at a time...trying not to show any fear, and above all, not to break and run!

After about 50 yards (which seemed to take forever), I got to a little less dense stand of willows, and then backed a little less slowly another 100 yards or so, before turning and then walking very resolutely back to my truck. I got in and held the steering wheel and got my breathing under control for about five minutes before driving home that day.

I was not biking I was walking and the idea of running seemed bad to me. Obviously I was not mauled z
so I guess I acted correctly that time.

Running would definitely be bad.

Either the mother was in front of the cub relative to the path (in which case she had already passed), or behind the cub, in which case if the cub had crossed the trail and you came in between the cub and the mother, that would also be bad.

Certainly glad you were not attacked and were able to get by there okay.
