I wonder if they assume that 7.62x39 users would be used to the manual of arms of an average AK, and/or if potential buyers are poorer to begin with so they're removing a feature that adds a little bit of extra cost.
I think the main cost compromise would be being able to use standard AK mags rather than training. Again Type 81 already had Bolt hold open standard and China was pretty poor back then. Also note that Type 81’s hold open does not have any external release unlike AR15. There’s no reason to believe that they would get rid of a feature they already implemented in a far older design.
I mean are there anyway for a standard AK mag to even engage the bolt catch? if majority of your targeted customer cant use the feature why put it there. Its mean to attract buyer who is looking for AK mag compatibility anyway.
As mentioned by
@Hvang, no. That being said if they follow the Type 81 fashion, using a CS/LR42A “native” 7.62x39 magazine would hold the bolt open when the last round is fired. Using an AK mag would close the bolt and need to use the charging handle on a reload.
My guess is that the intended customers would be along the lines of elite troops of African countries who would probably buy a bunch of native magazines as well, but probably be sold on the idea that they can use AK mags in an extended firefight.
