Well, it should be rather QBU, not QBV, since the V is a result of different Chinese transliteration. And the U means Juji, which is Chinese word for "sniper". All Chinese sniper and marksman rifles are designated as QBU-number.

I'm aware of that.
But why is there a special reason why it's called QBV-191 instead of QBU-191?

Because several sources use the other transliteration method, which leads to the QBV designation. Sometimes, people think that there are two different variants of the rifle, QBU-191 and QBV-191, but in fact, they are the same.

I think it's a little complicated.
Thank you for letting me know.

You're welcome. And yes, Chinese and its transliteration definitely IS a complicated one. :)

Sometimes, it seems that people think that the QBU-191 is the designated marksman rifle (the replacement for QBU-88), while the QBV-191 is the ultra-light squad machine gun (the replacement for QBB/QJB-95), but it is the same weapon. As it was explained in this thread several pages before, almost everything points to conclusion that the PLA aims to use the QBU-191 in both roles, primarily as a DMR, but also as the ultra-light squad machine gun, similarly to the M27 in the US Marine Corps.
