Can seem to make out the diving plane on the new sub. If it's on the boat body it seems to be low.

edit: Sorry Subs like kilo seems to have retractable hydroplanes, that may be why.

Is this drawing reliable? The muffler looks awfully small with the propeller inside, unless it's pump jet.

So many double entendres... Here's another. Why does the propulsion look like it has a "ribbed" shroud around it? Anyone know what that is?

it is unlikely imo. Most of the diesel submarines are still 7 blade propellers and I'd expect that to be the case with 039B.

btw Assassin's mace, nice job with uploading the photo, but you should note that I attached the same photo several posts ago.

Re: PLAN submarines Thread II

Forgive my impertinence but I don't believe that this particular submarine is a new Yuan class boat.

There are too many differences for it to be a mere continuation of the Yuan class.

The joint between the bows and the upper casing is stepped and not smooth.

The forward hydroplanes resemble Kilo-type ones and appear to be able to retract into the upper casing.

Unlike all previous Yuan boats, this one has a very long sail and no sail-mounted hydro-planes.

The sail is even longer than the one on the Kilo class boats.

The stern of this boat resembles that of the Song and Yuan class with the vertical tail rudder/fins unlike the Kilos with their rudder/fins mounted underneath.

This may be a new class of SSK!
