The credibility of the article is very very questionable since it mentioned the purchase of 4 Lada.

I thought China has already installed AIP in their Type 039G, Type 039G1, Type 041, and Type 043. I think they are now focusing on the studies of a possible magnetohydrodynamic drive for their Type 095 or Type 096.

Do you mean pumpjets/waterjets?

Hehehe...mystery solved!

I actually remember this from my own youth, but our SD member, cirvine11 reminded me. LOL! Here's the mystery sub shown there in that Chinese Exhbit Hall, you can get one for yourself online at the OldModelShop...or at a garage sale:

Revell%20H437%20GW%20Sub.JPG

This was a model of the USS Geroge Washington, SSBN-598, put out in by Revell in 1975...and here's another one someone built and displayed on Fine Scale Modeler Magazine.

10.jpg

Folks, that model was put out 38 years ago of a submarine the US built in 1959! We're talking 54 year old US technology here. Nothing to do with today's PLAN...although I am sure they would like to have four or five SSBNs as good as the George Washington was.

Think about that and what it says about the USS Ohio class SSBNs the US has 14 of out their serving their silent duty deep in the depths of the most remote and darkest holes in the ocean.

Hunt for the Red October much? interesting, the Japanese are probably further along in this technology than anyone else. Other than a incredible waste of money, there isn't much to show for it. Also in reality the magnetic signature of such drive would reveal it quicker than any sonar can. Pump jet on the other hand is capable, proven to work and is a hallmark of current generation submarines.

merging with submarine thread. This has been known for many years. They've built 3 submarine tenders to use LR-7. Not really news.
