Hmmmmm....

I think we have seen a photo of Type094 armed with 16 silo but some outright dismiss as PS.
Maybe the first 094 is a trial run of 12 silo then the subsequent others is 16 silo. But that will be a mass redesign of it.
I think trying to dig info of PLAN SSBN will be the toughest since its highly classify.

Nope, all 094's have 12 silos. I saw one under construction a couple of weeks ago and that one is exactly the same as the ones in pictures on the net. There was a rumour floating around the shipyard that there was a mistake during the construction of the submarine and it has to be floated back onto the dry yard later for rectifying.

I believe we have seen pictures of at least two seperate Type 094s with 12 tubes...and rumor is that two more either have been, or are being built.

Perhaps this is what they think the 16 tube vessel, the Type 096 we have heard about is going to look like...but that silhouette and layout looks familiar.

Perhaps the 16 tube vessel is the Type 096 we have heard about.

The model looks more streamline as well. I am sure it is not Type 094/A ...... redesigning SSBN from 12 tubes to 16 tubes would be a huge task, and maybe better off to design a new type (096), and it does look better

The next iteration of Type 095 SSN and Type 096 SSBN will be of matured designed

Also the new Chinese SSK will also be of matured designed, at this stage I think China has mastered submarine technology

However nuclear submarines swallow up so much resources and finances, they are very very expensive vessels, a SSBN can cost $3+billion easily and a SSN over $1+billion easily, SSK are cheaper

Just upgrading a SSBN or changing over its warheads can cost hundreds of millions, this is a very expensive business

The Royal Navy 4 Vanguard Class SSBN are based in Scotlands West coast, when they need to replace weapons the entire area goes into shutdown very tight security

The 4 Vanguard Class replaced the 4 Resolution Class SSBN which were built in the 1960s, the 4 resolution class are now sit in the Rosyth Dockyard which I pass every week when I drive to and from work over the forth road bridge over the firth of the fourth, the decommissioning alone of these submarines was a expensive business

And to finish off, Royal Navy will decide in 2015 whether or not another 4 SSBN will replace the 4 Vangaurd Class or to cut the number to 3, however many say the number will remain 4

So that's 3 generations if SSBN in around 100 years,

Resolution class 1968-1996
Vanguard Class 1993 to probably 2020-2030
Then 4 new SSBN from 2025-30 to 2060
