Nice pics...and nice models. Now that is model building to sink your teeth into.

Can anyone read the chinese on these two pics?

Might help determine something about them.

Wait a sec. Did bbc say Japan held the record of deep sea dive at 6km. I thought James Cameron just did a 11km dive?

I think the BBC forgot to mention what kind of category submersible it is. James Cameron broke the record for a solo dive and quite an accomplished I have to say. I don't know all the details to this latest Chinese record.

Richard Branson was also planning a dive to the deepest point in the mariana trench (by someone else) in his designed craft.
Wonder if Cameron irked him by stealing his glory :p

I think the record here is about submersibles that can move under its own power and untethered.

The bathyscaphe Trieste made a dive to the bottom of the mariana trench a long time ago.

It's just talking about the different parts of the sub. First one is probably the torpedo room and third one is the SLBM silo section. Apparently the missiles are launched from 30m deep, this allows the sub to not be affected by adverse sea states.

Thanks for clarifying
