The Qing doesn't lack sail planes, they are just re-tractable. You can clearly see where they would extend from on several of the photos.

I think he just means the planes are not on the sail, not that there aren't any.

That is correct. I was very precise in my wording. I am stating there are no sail planes. I am not claiming a lack of dive planes, which is obviously silly.

What is the purpose of retracting them?

I think it's for acoustic stealth, but don't quote me. The less protrusions imply less surface area for acoustic reflection.

Does anybody have any further information regarding the Type 095 SSN and Type 096 SSBN?

Deagel.com (which is a pretty accurate source) predicts that the Type 095 will achieve initial operating capability in 2012. Some say that the design for the Type 096 is already completed.

There is also a rumor that a variant of the Type 094 with 16 missile tubes will be launched.

If anybody has further information regarding the three submarines, please provide it!

I can definitely see features from the latests SSKs showing up on the 095s, such as the retractable diving planes and pumpjet propulsion. In a way the SSKs could be considered a means of proofing equipment for the SSNs to use.

The new SSK has pump jet propulsion?

The new SSK probably does not have a pumpjet... and the retractable diving planes are in a configuration similar to the Kilo in that they swing out rather than slide out. I'm not sure if there is a difference but I'd prefer the latter config.
