Wow just seen this been off line recently due to travel
This is interesting I will update my list on page 1 but for some reason I losse all my "likes" everytime I edit or update the list anyway no big deal
What is interesting is that ESF is sending the 150 DDG for the first time and also it's the first time 890 the replenishment tanker is going out
549 FFG has been sent once before during the 12th Escort mission
So 2 out of 3 ships are being deployed for the first time
A typical PLAN flotilla has around 700 sailors on average for a Western navy it costs around $1000 per day per sailors to be deployed so it means 700 sailors cost $255 million to be permanently deployed for a whole year
For China the wages are less and overall cost per sailor is less than thier Western counterparts so lets say it's 50% of that figure so it's costing China maybe $125 million per year to do these anti-piracy missions overall this is the 6th year so it would have cost them around $750 million for Gulf of Aden missions

But they have sent ships to Libya, Syria chemical weapon disposal and now for Malaysian airlines so the advantages are clear

Just thinking about the Type 903/A replenishment tankers 890 is on its way out and 889 is on its way back and 886 is on its way to MH370 missions that means 3 out of 4 Type 903 are out and deployed just shows how important logistical ships are

Wow, that is a bigger force than I expected!
I thought they were only going to send an FFG or DDG at most.
Sending an equivalent of an Aden taskforce with the non threatening Peace Ark is a decent show of how serious the PLAN is taking the exercise and also partly shows its intent.

The FFG will be 054A for sure, it actually the mainstream for PLAN right now hard to image they would send anything else. the DDG may be 052C or 052B, depends what available and whether China wants to send 052C or not. With 052D coming out, 052C is no longer the cutting edge for PLAN.
Since China is send a tanker and hospital ship as well, perhaps the fleet go on goodwill tour in SE Asia or South America afterwards.

Something tells me the PLAN will send a 053H FFG and a 052 DDG.
Heck, PLAN might keep one unit each of 053H and 052 for another fifty years just for the purpose of participating in multilateral naval exercises.
Then again, they might surprise me and send a 051 Luda instead.
