PLAN overseas deployment and excercises a list

CCP has outlined that they will need a four axis approach to the Indian Ocean which means 3 overseas bases, one in the South (Seyschelles) one in the West (East Coast of Africa) one in the North (Gwader) China itself is the fourth position
Where can I find that outline? I only remember denials of suggestions PLAN will seek bases in the Seychelles and Gwadar. Such bases would need a huge investment in air bases and support facilities besides what the ships themselves need. This would need a trust in or power over the local government quite contrary to diplomatic position China has taken for a long time. China would be better served by an end to overseas bases by all large countries and it can't pursue such s development if it were to develop such bases itself.

Realistically speaking, that's just not going to happen.
I know. But the reason to acquire a foreign base must be very good will it balance the objections I mentioned. Besides they can ( I don't know if they do ) point to the fact that the UK deported all the inhabitants of the Chagos Islands to make space for the US Diego Garcia base and it would be difficult to do so if something happened with a Chinese overseas base.

China doesn't want to unnecessarily provoke India, so Gwadar would probably be a 'place' and not a 'base.' Seychelles might turn out to be a full fledged PLAN base, since China could make a good case for a base to provide global public goods around Middle East and Africa.

I gladly accept your argument against Gwadar. But also I don't see a base in the Seychelles in the foreseeable future.

does anyone know what chinese ships are being sent into the southern ocean to look for the missing malaysian airlines plane? How are they going to work out the refueling issue? Do they refuel from a chinese oiler? from HMAS Success? or do they have to go to Perth to refuel. The search area is a long long way away from anywhere

Sure..here's a few photos.

March 17, China Lake replenishment ship is seen re-fueling supplying fresh water and fresh food supply. PLAN ships Haikou (DDG 171) Mianyang (FFG 528) & Jinggang Shan (LPD 999) were replenished. Feng photo agency issued by Daizong

All in all these are some excellent photos by the PLAN.

UNREP is basically old hat for the PLAN now. They've had the capability since they commissioned 881 and 882 in 1980, although it is in the last decade and a half that they really started using it a lot when they started making real blue water excursions.

that's really nice, we rarely see that many UNREP photos from PLAN.
