I doubt it, they've sent 054As to previous smaller exercises with USN before. They've also done many courtesy calls

Neither 054A or 052C are new anymore. Personally I don't think it would be strange for them to send two ships of those classes there.

No China will most likely send Peace Ark, Type 903 tanker , Type 054A and Type 052C

That's not top end of PLAN capability but it is a powerful force

In the coming years both Japan and Australia will have fully fledged amphibious assault groups based on USN Marine Expeditionary units especially JMSDF will have a very formidable flat top force with AGEIS DDG to escort them RAN will have 3 x DDG plus 2 x LHD

So it's paramount China builds up its amphibious assault forces 3 x LPD won't cut it anymore they need LHD too

I hope China takes part in RIMPAC every time from now on US invited them they should return the favour it's good chance for China to bridge the gaps

In next RIMPAC I hope to see China send a full carrier strike package

1 x CV
2 x DDG
3 x FFG
1 x SSN
1 x replenishment tanker

8 ships

Lol, if china is invited to another RIMPAC I suspect they will never send a full CSG, not until the global political landscape drastically changes and some alliances are broken and reformed.

Well... I kind of believe that China would send their second rated ships there and never a CVG. Politics plays a big part here. The Chinese wanted to show the world a peaceful Chinese rise and will never send a force strong enough to support the China threat theory.

In actual fact, I kind of believe that the Chinese will send ships that they are willing to sell to external markets and that would show those countries that might wanted to buy warships to take a look at the Chinese destroyers and frigates...

Well, the PLAN will want to show that they are both peaceful, but also that they are capable. The hospital ship shows that they come in peace.
But sending an 052 and an 053H3 would show a PLAN that is from the last century and that is incapable.

Sending a modern destroyer and frigate like 052C and 054A is not particularly inflammatory or aggressive, compared to the ships that everyone else is sending.

I think this type of view is out of date to be honest maybe we could say this before say 2008 before the anti piracy missions but now it's different the view of China's rise is seen mostly no different than any other country and I am sure everyone involved will be excited and happy to see China's full carrier strike package in action

China used to think like this of itself in the early days of the anti piracy missions sometimes not even docking in ports for long periods of time incase it kicks up the "China threat" issue but soon they realised they were Wellcome as well as anyone else

So China sending a CVG to RIMPAC isn't a big deal only the biased Western media would play it up rest if us would know better I think China should send CVG for anti piracy missions also would be very beneficial many other country's heve sent their carriers

PLAN has some fine assets in its arsenal time to get it out and in action

There is a little bit more about Naval Interaction-2014 from Chinese Media

VLADIVOSTOK, May 14 (Xinhua)-- Russian navy ships left here Wednesday for Shanghai to take part in a joint naval drill with the Chinese navy.

Six ships from the Russian Pacific Fleet would take part in the "Joint Sea-2014" drill in the northern part of the East China Sea, local media reported.

The ships include guided missile cruiser Varyag, large anti-submarine ship Admiral Panteleyev, large amphibious ship Admiral Nevelskoy, anti-surface destroyer Bystry, tanker Ilim and tugboat Kalar.

The drill is aimed at strengthening mutual trust and cooperation between the two countries' military forces, and boosting their capacity to jointly deal with maritime security threats, the report said.

A total of 14 vessels, two submarines, nine fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters and special forces from both countries will take part in the exercise, a Chinese navy spokesman said in Beijing on Tuesday.

This will be the third such exercise after joint drills off the coast of Russia's Far East in July 2013 and the Yellow Sea in April 2012.

Which means that eight Chinese vessels will be involved. Still cannot find any details of which ones they will be.
Obviously there will be no Liaoning, but the inclusion of an 071 would send a very interesting message.

A little bit of confusion as to where the drills will be held. Most commentaries have said the East China Seas, but VOR is saying South China Seas.

The Russian squadron should be arriving in Shanghai before long, so maybe we will get to see which Chinese vessels are there to take part.
