What? What are you talking about? There are temples built for Yue Fei. He has been thought to be possibly THE national hero in Chinese history. what part of him is not positive, except he put down a couple peasant rebellion, which might not sit well with the CCP?

With PRC/CCP, the correct political term for Yue Fei is an Han ethnic hero rather than a national here, since PRC embrace it's a multicultural ethnic country.

if you ask me, I'd rather name the carrier by China famous mountains. Think of the unsinkable Mt. Tai-shan, lol. Just a thought.

That's what I've been saying all along, using person names would no doubt get lots of controversies, plus, Yue Fei is no doubt a celebrated hero but he is an ARMY GENERAL, not NAVY ADMIRAL, so he's out by tradition.

And naming after mountains, sorry buddy but that's been reserved for LSTs and LPDs, better to name after the great rivers - cities been reserved for frigates and destroyers. Or they can used historical battles that the CCP won the day.

Why not just name it after the PLAN admiral that first floated the carrier project in appreciation for his contributions and efforts, event if there is nothing glorious about him on the battle fields?

That's not possible because there're set rules (in the codes and laws that is) to naming ships and once name this carrier after him, all subsequent PLAN aircraft carriers will have to be named as such, after those who greatly contribute to the carrier project; no only that, this list is pretty small to boot - remember, PLAN for a long time follow the Soviet doctrine and carrier was something totally out of question to the Chinese.

Plus, Chinese is wary of personality cult (yes they keep slipping towards it at some point but overall the Chinese government discourage that), if they did so now it'd open a floodgate to this, but limiting it to navy admirals they'd run out of possible candidates far too soon, as I've said before, pro-carrier camp ain't popular until the last 10 years, when China's financial strength and realities allow them to own a carrier task group.

Yue Fei's death has always been a cautionary tale on the danger of blind loyalty. It's not about him putting down peasant rebellions, it's about him obeying an order that he KNOWS will lead to his death, and the ruin of everything he had accomplished.

Of course, you can always argue that historically, certain factors may have forced him to obey that order. However, it doesn't change the fact that for the longest time, even as the common people revered Yue Fei for his courage and sacrifice, they lamented his blind loyalty to a regime that did not deserve it.

He ended up defeated by the British, died not out at sea but at a fort, bayoneted to death...kinda bitter an end to say the least, only remind the humiliations that China going to receive for the 2 centuries since his death.

Although he fought to the end like lion, still not a good choice in this case.

that was not his fault, when Lin Zexu governed Guangdong, Lin made significant preparation for war against the possible British invasion. As a result the British force was defeated numerous times in the battles in the Canton region, Guan Tianpei personally led a fleet defeated the enemy, the British fleet hurried escape and left Guandong, the British force was compelled to sail north to attack JiangSu and Zhejiang. The governors of these two provinces failed to heed a warning from Lin, however. As a result, they were unprepared, and the British easily landed and occupied Dinghai.
the British fleet arrived to north China, threatend to attack TianJin, Tianjin is near to Beijing, the Qing dynasty emperor was scared, because of this defeat, and also because of the corrupt political structure of the Qing Dynasty, Lin was used as a scapegoat for these losses. he was replaced by Qishan in September 1840.
Qi Shan arrived in Guangzhou to oppose Lin and Guan practices, ordered the removal of the relevant years of painstaking efforts of the coastal defense, laid off two-thirds of sailors, the strong sailors all severance, which is To meet the needs of the British.
the result is sad, China was defeated, failed Opium war.Guan Tianpei and the soldiers were heroic resistance, with out Qing government support, fighting to the last, heroic sacrifice.
Guan Tianpei is the same of Deng Shichang, Guan Tianpei used to defeated the British fleet, but Deng Shichang didn't, China can use Deng Shichang's name for the ship, Guan Tianpei's name is no problem for the ship.
the English Wikipedia link talks so simple, I can't find any detail story about Guan Tianpei in English.

That is a good example of the importance of naval capabilities. Good coastal defenses mean nothing if your enemy can freely sail along the coast and attack a less defended area.
