The fourth point is by far the most important, in my opinion. I think that Chinese Aircraft Carriers ought convert to catapults, as this allows greater design flexibility and more surface area. Plus AWACS, EWAs & Cargos are equally important to the aircraft carrier, as the combat aircraft on it.

AFAIK only the US builds aircraft catapults capable of launching todays naval aircraft. I dont think its a easy task developing catapults, but i could be wrong.

Huh? the CdG has catapults too.

True but they did not build them....the CdG has C13‑3 cats. Which is a shorter version of the same catapults installed on Nimitz class CVNs.

I'm not sure if NAVIR is still doing major repairs on the French catapults.

Toulon, France (Aug. 20, 2002) U.S. Naval Aviation (NAVAIR) Carrier and Field Service Unit (CAFSU) representative Dale Hafer (left) takes measurements of a catapult power cylinder following resizing of the cylinder aboard the French aircraft carrier Charles De Gaulle (R 91). Kevin Vanderberry, another NAVAIR CAFSU representative, records the measurements. NAVAIR is providing maintenance support to the French carrier in port. U.S. Navy photo. (RELEASED)

What a treat for those guys...and a great gesture by the US Navy.
