I am not very familiar with russian aircraft, but I think, this SU-27K has a belly tank. At least one tank with hose would be necessary in the tanker role.

No, this is a mock-up of the Kh-41 Moskit ASM ... as far as I know tanks were only carried by the Su-34 !

I agree.. they look welded to me as well because the seams are just to narrow if it wasn't. Also if it's a functional ordnance elevator there is no painting or marking around it. It would've been painted bright color like yellow, orange/red or at least white and not low visible gray!

Seams are too narrow?

The markings on the deck have gone through several versions since the ship was launched. Here is a picture at one point in time showing markings around the elevators.

The picture I posted was taken before the first aircraft has ever touched the deck. So, the one taken on the deck showing the J-15 at take-off position is the newer one.

that makes it more mysterious.. so the markings that were there is now but all gray! Like I said before if it's an weapons elevator it WILL have markings like in your picture so either PLAN decides to do away with them OR the elevators were in the process of being repainted and the gray color is just the base coat. In that case that picture with th J-15 was snapped in between the paintings.

PLAN decided to do away with the markings. What you called base coat is actually the paint over those markings.

Plus. only myself and kwaigonegin have ever served on an CVN... I know what bomb elevators and safety makings should look like. IF that is a weapons elevator it is well disguised.. and with no safety markings?! Not a good idea. It's just not safe.

When the carrier is more operational I'd like to see the elevators in use..if they are indeed active elevators..

that's what I was thinking too bd.. Why on earth would PLAN paint the outlines of the opening almost the same color as the flight deck? it doesn't make any sense to me.

You want to make it VERY VISIBLE so that some poor sailor is not accidently standing on top of it or park a vehicle/plane etc over it when some poor sap wants to bring some missiles or bombs up to the flight deck!

Every single marking, lines etc on the flight deck serves a purpose and that is safety because it is quite dangerous on the flight deck and visual cues are crucial since you can't hear anything! There is a reason why on carriers every line is painted bright colors like white, yellow, red so nobody stands on the wrong spot and gets injured or killed!

It could be the grey color be the final color instead of the base paint. It could be the PLAN went and tested to see which variation was easier to recognize in both bad weather and foggy weather in contrast to the deck color.

My guess is that it was done due to feedback from pilots who did the first few touch-and-go. As a result, a bunch of markings were made less visible or removed completely. The white runway outlines were extended all the way forward. The center line at the stern was extended all the way to the waterline.

Perhaps when the crew starts weapon handling, PLAN will decide to add the hazard outlines again. Until then, this is the current version of deck markings.
