What's the combat record of ski-jump carriers?
Well, the UK used Ski-Jump carriers in the Falklands War and they did well. And the Harriers are nt as high performance or capable as the J-15s.What's the combat record of ski-jump carriers?
My guess is that the cost savings, the mutual training, logistics, etc. of having two Ski-jump carriers that are very similar, pushed the Chinese into deciding that this was the best and least risky route right now.One reason could be to take advantage of knowledge acquired with Liaoning, while living conditions aboard 001A will be much better, it'll also be able to carry more fuel.
He also hinted political problem behind the choice made, saying that this is a "sharp" question and the decision was made before 18th party congress.
I think base on prior construction of large warships that the propulsion system is in
note.. you will not find any photos of the propulsion system "laid open" on a CV-9, CV-41, CV-59, CV-63 or Nimitz class CVN.
There are two types of carriers being developed. The first is 002, which is China's equivalent to Kitty Hawk class. The one being built in Daling is 001A, which is a copy of the Liaoning. So the official words are true, but so are the breakthrough in EMALS.The official word has been spoken. I'm curious as to what the members of this forum think about this little tidbit;
Is this the truth or just a ploy to keep us China watchers including the US DoD in the dark on the capabilities of this ship? And if there is no catapult what happened to China's research and development on catapults,both steam and EMAL, in general? Was the reported development of catapults a smokescreen or just fan boi dreams?
Jeff,Since the end of August they have accomplished the following from the level below the hanger to what they are doing at the hanger deck level.:

I do not think they will be ready for launch in April. If they do, it will be without significant portions of the vessel complete to the standard we normally see PLAN vessels launched.
Lots of structural work still to do internally in all of those spaces we see being landed right now.
No bow yet. No stern yet. No flight deck yet. No island yet.
Lots to go.
