Do we have an estimate of how long it would take from now on for the carrier to be launched (or to be completed)?

IIRC there was some nice animated picture/video about the Ford's progress, showing how each module was added month after month.

The HMS QE's first hangar module was assembled to the hull in late June, 2012, and the ship itself was launched two years later, in July 2014.
The HMS QE was at a similar stage of completion back in June 2012 to 001A now as well... but at the same time there are some differences in construction such as DL constructing all of 001A's modules itself at one site while the HMS QE had various modules built elsewhere and shipped to Rosyth.

At this stage it's hard to say when 001A would be launched, as we don't really know how fast 001A is being constructed relative to other carriers of similar size recently.
I expect a launch within two years at the latest. At the earliest, maybe late next year.

Is it just me or does the ship look very narrow even without the additional deck on the sides.

Most carriers are like that at this stage of construction.

Here is what HMS Prince of Wales looked like before she had additional flight deck modules added and prior to having aft modules added. She looked quite narrow as well.

fzgfzy's estimation back in Augest was that 001A will be launched around April to June-2016 next year. The speed will pick up and accelerate at this stage because is mainly assembling large modules. And then it will take another 2 years to finish.

Edit: yes.. when the flight deck and island is assembled.

That's ambitious but doable. I presume by "launch" he means it will have its flight deck and island fully assembled as well?

So, at what level of completion will it typically be launched? When the deck and island is finished? Or will it be like the Indian carrier launches with half of its superstructure missing?

Most carriers tend to be officially launched when the flight deck and island are relatively completed. I expect 001A to be officially launched in a similar manner to the international norm.

There are two reasons:
1. China has no experience
2. China has no operational carrier, there is no lack of a carrier.

1: China has no experience with carrier operations, meaning they have even more reason to retain an operational carrier for as long as possible to train crew and pilots and learn the lessons
2: Liaoning is the operational carrier.
