so they are 6 qualif. Pilots and 36 new bees...
..
So we have a nice land based facility, a new build homeport for the ships, an operational aircraft carrier, enough pilots but one thing is still missing: the squadrons of aircraft.so they are 6 qualif. Pilots and 36 new bees
It's amazing that the Ouija board is still alive and well in carrier operations in 2013. We're talking 75 yr old pen and paper technology and until very recently NOTHING has come close to replacing a piece of cardboard and some nuts, bolts and screws.
Even the most advanced computers and processors is a poor substitute for placing screws on paper airplanes.
I know the Ford class CVN will have this fancy electronic version of the Ouija Board but it bascially still does the same EXACT thing except it's projected on monitors with electronic data feed and cost literally a 100000 X more LOL.
Either way any airboss or miniboss worth his salt better be stashing away some colored screws and cardboard cutout of the flight deck somewhere close by as a surefire backup.
If the monitor blacks out, delay in processing, OS freezes up etc not only will aircraft handling comes to a standstill but potential for accidents on the flight deck is very likely. This problem will be magnified exponentially when it's during expanded sortie rates such as in a crisis or war.
I'm not a big fan of this electronic display gizmo... Up in Pri Fly when things are hot and heavy and stressful..sometimes you need something tangible.. something old school where you can literally feel, touch, move etc..like in a chess game. electronic chess is ok but nothing beats playing it old school where you have to use you hands to move the pieces etc. Technology can't replace that just yet IMHO.
ARABIAN GULF (Dec. 15, 2011) Flight Deck Handler Lt. Cmdr. Edward Jaso maps out aircraft placement on the Ouija board aboard the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74). John C. This is the most OUTSTANDING post in the history of mankind. ^^ PERIOD!
kwaigonegin MUST have experience working in flight deck control or Pri-Fly. He knows that you can have all the whiz band gizmos you need..but nothing replaces the Mk 1 Mod 1 human eyeball and brain. Anyone that has ever worked the flight deck knows a human has to be in over all control.. otherwise chaos will reign.
The USN has been using this "pen and paper technology" for ever..
