"Liaoning ship out to sea to carry out routine training and test business institutions with trainingship of the Navy to monitor."
I hope the Liaoning is soon ready to do to China's adversaries what that news site did to the english of that sentence :p

You are correct ... this not-online translation is surely better:

QINGDAO, June 12 (Xinhua) -- "Liaoning", China's first aircraft carrier, on Friday left a military port in Qingdao in Shandong Province, east China, to undertake a training and testing mission.

According to a statement from the People's Liberation Army Navy, the mission would evaluate the results of tests on the vessel over the past three years.

Liaoning has completed more than 100 scientific-research tests, as well as landing and takeoff exercises by J-15 carrier-borne fighters and various types of helicopters, the statement said.

This mission is a routine arrangement in the carrier's training schedule, according to the statement.

Liaoning was refitted based on an unfinished Russian-made carrier and commissioned in September 2012.

One of these days we will figure out what this means...It does not translate well.
Well, they will continue to use wording to indicate that the carrier is nothing more than a test platform for training and research.

I do not believe that for a moment...though the testing, training and exercises they have been doing as they work up to full operational capability can certainly be characterized that way.

When they say:

"Liaoning", China's first aircraft carrier, left a military port in to undertake a training and testing mission. The mission would evaluate the results of tests on the vessel over the past three years."

That tells me that on this cruise, they are going to be putting into practice the things that they have learned and implemented for the last couple of years.

They have probably been training the crew and making whatever changes they needed to so they could address what they have learned, and now they are going to go out and exercise those things.

I am hoping that it includes some more air operations with a few more aircraft.

We shall see...because time will tell.

I just want to see more photos so me old sailors eyes;) can evaluate how they are progressing. When the PLAN first took published the videos and photos of the first operation aboard CV-16 I thought they would progress much faster than they have..but that is not what we are seeing. We are being spoon fed exactly what the PLAN wants us to see..and no more.

In the words of that Great American , Jeff Head, .."Time will tell"...and in the PLANs case of CV operations that seems to be a lot of time.

By the way I don't think any of us would be surprised if the PLAN was further along in CV operations than we imagine..

I'm done.. test bd will return..

welcome back. I will ignore the last sentence.

btw, on this entire talk of scientific research. That's just something they use as a typical propaganda piece. Just remember how people in China phrase things and announce things is very different from how things are done in Western countries. It's always a shock even for me when I interact with people back in China and I spent the first 10 years of my life there. Don't expect PLAN social media to give you anything really informative. It's there to get Chinese people excited about their military.
