Yes. And that is why I answer to Hardware, if you would look at my quote. Extremely crooked logic he had there... It was as if asking the chinese to resign to fate... no matter what the Chinese do, they would lag behind.

I don't think so. To me he was pointing out that China has one CV and maybe building another. The US has 10 active CVNs..

I do wish hardware would answer these post.

Yes, I acknowledge that US had 10 CV. In conventional or any type of warfare, no one could hope to really win US at all. But that doesn't meant that by deploying catapult on China aircraft carrier will not change anything. I mean, you need to start somewhere right?

And I don't think China wanted to go all out against US. The thing here is, with a weapon, you can deter others from attacking even if your enemy is much stronger or greater, but you would show them that you can bite back, and your bite can be dangerous, although not enough to kill, but at least enough to hurt.

I know this because I can relate it to my home country, Singapore. Singapore is tiny (I believe all of you know it already), but we do have a standing army, in confrontation with Indonesia or Malaysia or basically most of ASEAN nations, I do not think we can actually stand too long. And by Hardware's theory, we might as well cut away those spending because we cannot change the equation. But we didn't, because if there really is a war, we WILL die, but at least we can bleed you too. And that is the exact strategy to use when stronger adversaries find it not worth while to attack you because they will be hurt too.

(PS. I really hate it when everyone is all excited about something, then someone came in with a wet blanket and toss it over everyone's head. I mean if there is a good reason for those words... explain it fully rather than a short little sentence like he was enlightened or what. Seriously.)

The Chinese are building their carrier aviation capability. They are doing so very carefully and very methodically...and they are doing a good job of it IMHO.

I believe this will continue. It will take time and there is lots to learn, but the PRC has already made the statement with their many developments and investments in time and treasure (and sustained over a ten+ year period) , that they are willing to do so. They rebuilt a large carrier and made it operational. They have developed their own capable naval strike fighter. They have developed and built extensive infrastructure including a dedicated naval aviation training facility.

They will build more carriers. I expect they will ultimately have 4-6 carriers operational at one time probably by the late 2020s. This is not a force to sneeze at. It is more concentrated (and will remain so) than the US fleet of ten. It will perform two missions (predominantly) for the PLAN.

1) Defend and advance the interests of the PRC in terms of its sea lanes, access to resources, etc.
2) Deter other nations from interfering with those interests.

It is not going to happen over night. But supposing they do get to that level, they will have one of the premier naval forces on earth at that time.

I pray there never is a conflict between the two. Both forces will be performing those same two missions for their perspective nations. Hopefully they can find a way to do so without conflict between them.

But no one should take what is happening lightly, or cavalierly dismiss it either.

CV16 Liaoning will drill in Bohai from Aug 15 to Aug 24

I think this maybe the last drill of this kind before the expected high sea training in the autumn.

In translation: the restriction is placed for Aug 15 to Aug 24 in Bohai.

Next time can you please provide a translation of the content if it's not in English? We do have a large number of members who cannot read Chinese.

Nice. They are getting almost old hat at taking her out to sea now...and that is good.

I wonder if they will get a few more pilots qual'ed this time?
