The US Navy when getting underway make these announcements on the 1MC(loudspeaker);

The ship expects to get underway at time zero eight hundred!
Now go to your stations on the Special Sea And Anchor Detail!
All Damage Control Petty Officers lay to DC central to sign Material Condition Yoke!!
The Officer of the deck has shifted his watch from the Quarterdeck to the navigational bridge. Dial 201 or 202.
Then finally
Shift colors!..Shift colors!...The ship is underway!

I wonder what the PLAN says?

WE GO NOW! Do not bring your mother's packed lunch box with you.

Popeye's Navy rant..

I see we have some comedians here at SDF..That's cool

Proverbs 17:22Amplified Bible (AMP)

22 A happy heart is good medicine and a cheerful mind works healing, but a broken spirit dries up the bones.

In all honesty and sincerity going to sea is no joking matter. Your wife and kids are not their. Your mommie won't tuck you in at night. You can't raid the fridge in the middle of the night..or day depending on what shift you work. You have to stand watches when you are susposed to be sleeping. The 1MC (loudspearker) is making announcements....all day..

You have to work 12 hours on and 12 hours off.. many shipmates work much more than that. Day after day..night after night. That's the real "Ground hog day".. And there's drills.. General Quarters, Fire drills, mass casualty drills etc..etc.. Oh let's not forget UNREPs..now called RAS, replenishment at Sea. And let's us not forget the working parties for mail ,unreps , flight & hangar deck "scrubex"..and the list goes on..

If you are lower ranked enlisted.. I hope you like standing in line. On Hancock I hadda stand in line to take a shower some times. Lines for the ships stores, chow, barber shop, sick call.. especially after a port call in a port where, shall I say, the natives are friendly.

Oh there are fun times..video games , movies on Tv, gyms, bingo all sorts of tournaments...but it's not Fun city. No way.

No half steppin' allowed, Trust me ..It ain't no joke.

Rant over

Yes, I wonder too big daddy, and I was just teasing, but some of those sights and sounds stick with you. I still remember going through the check list of the only turbine aircraft I flew, and on the console were two yellow buttons that initiated the auto-start sequence. Push the first one and the old geared Garrets began to turn the prop, growling in protest, if every thing stayed green???? that growl progressed to an overwhelming HOWLING SCREAM! a wild thing uncaged. Then you pushed the second yellow button, and gggggrroooooowwwwwwwllllllllllllll coming up to hhhhhhooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwlllllllllllll and two wild things let loose. They idled about 96%, and when you pushed the props out of ground idle, all the way to the stops, it would jump forward and accelerate at a rather alarming rate, pushing you back into your seat, and about 105 knots you would pull the yoke back to unstick it and rotate the nosewheel coming off the ground and the aircraft accelerating and flying away! Initial climb light was around 3500 to 4500 ft per minute, it would Go!

but only a fraction of the horse of those Nukes, turning those four huge screws, I know that has to be a "trip"????

08.31.2014...In mid-April 2014, China's first aircraft carrier, Liaoning, enterened the Dalian shipyard for routine maintenance. On August 31 CV-16 left Dalian to return to her home port of Qingdao. (Source: ZTCD blue shark squad, etc.)

I've heard some funny stuff over the 1MC.. "All hands! Now set the mail buoy watch, aviators provide. Set the mail buoy watch NOW!"

According to the commendation order, a test squadron of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Air Force were granted a honorary title for successfully conducting the take-off and landing tests of J-15 fighters on the Liaoning, China's sole aircraft carrier.

The order spoke highly of the squadron in the exploration and development of the J-15 fighter jet. Two test pilots of the squadron sacrificed their lives during the tests.

Maybe this is partly responsible for the slowed tempo of training.

Now, THAT is news.

Many of us have talked about the inherent dangers associated with carrier deck flight operations. Clearly, a many of us predicted, the PLAN has now experienced it themselves. In such operations, tragically, it was really only a matter of time.

The wording of this makes me wonder

Two test pilots died from the squadron who successfully conducted landings and take-offs fom the Liaoning.

Did they die at sea? Did they die while conducting take offs or landings? Were aircraft lost? Lots of questions now.
