Ok so it's in dry dock must be some major modifications if it's in dry dock there was a reason why they didn't load up the deck with J15 fighters I bet when it comes out of dry dock they will do the trials and then get serious with the air wing

2015 might be the year when we see some serious carrier activity from China

It's been in south seas for more than 3 years now, time to do a clean-up the underwater part.

I'm sure it'll be a lot more than that but yes cleaning the draft would probably be one of them. There are barnacles etc adhering to the hull. Quite common actually.

Is it possible that they could modify the screw (propellers) a little bit? No I don't mean by fixing or anything. What I mean by is masking the noise it makes to confuse US submarines later on that records it previously?

Yes but why? The moment Liaoning leaves port (with her new screw), a USN SSN would've tracked her and recorded her new acoustic signatures and profile and update the database appropriately. :)

I can't say too much more unless you want men in black sunglasses to show up at my door.

Because it is not easy to find a pinging blackbox of an airliner, I think it is not easy to identify the individual noise of some screws, too. They tell you they can - but if they are needed, they fail. Keep calm and let the black men with the sunglasses come.

Actually your example proves otherwise. It is very easy to locate the pingers from a black box... and no MH370 ( I'm assuming you are implying that) is not a good example because for all we know they are not even anywhere close to where it is nevermind it could be sitting couple miles on the ocean floor which wouldn;t be the case of a large capital ship like a carrier sailing on the surface.

NO! they can change screws etc, she will still have a very similar sound signature, the hull creates a LOT of turbulence as she bulls her way through the waves, and if she accelerates to near flank for air ops, the engines, and draft off the hull makes an easily tracked racket, and yes racket is the word, since there is only ONE aircraft carrier, anything that big can only be one thing, the Liaoning, think rolling down the windows on your car type of noise??? LOL, Repitch the screws to hide that girl, what are you guys smoking???

Same with AF447.

Sonar is mystic - sometimes you will find something, sometimes not. But most of the time you don't know if there is something or not.

Well ACE, there went your reputation as a brite lad????? lets get real here, maybe you just ought to watch the Hunt for Red October, sound carries very well in a fluid, sonar depends on the quality of equipment, and the skill of the operator, me thinks you need to do a little further study....PS-they don't have windows in submarines, Hint, Hint?????

and no, not the same as Air France 447?, they had a very positive radar track on 447, with a solid transponder response until she broke up.....

HAHAHAHAHA good one mate-

No wait. You are seriously comparing a small, stationary box with 6-metre, 20-tonne beasts driven by 200K horse power? Seriously?
