Just more affirmation that bd popeye and Jeff Head were right when reminding posters that simply having a carrier, does not a CV make, and some of those hard cold posts about the reality of life at sea are not naysaying, but simply reality checks, that may be a little disappointing to the rest of us, I myself would have bet that last Franklin that the PLANAF, would have had 6 J-15s on deck this spring ready to rock and roll??? guess I was wrong?

I for one am not disappointed. This means the PLAN should have the bandwidth to work on LHD development!

We will know that the PLAN is really starting to put together the airwing for the Liaoning when the production versions of the J-15s start appearing and qualifying on the deck of the carrier.

Not one of them has done that yet...only various prototype aircraft.

At this point, with the maintenance overhaul going on, I do not expect to see that until late this year at the earliest.

And since the weather will be a consideration in the North China Sea then, unless she moves well down South, we may not see it until next Spring.

Only then can we seriously entertain the notion that the actual carrier wing is being put together. So maybe we will see up to six J-15s on deck next year. I do not believe they will get all 24 on deck next year at all. Probably at least 2016 before that happens now, maybe longer.

The PLAN has its own schedule and they are very methodically progressing towards it...but they are in no rush...nor necessarily should they be.

You guys make what you want of this. Personally i think this video came out to soon. They should have at least have waited for the air wing to embark.

Oh, I don't know. There are some extrordinarily good images in that video.

It is clearly a PR video with a lot of rah-rah. I probably, as an American, would have left out the guy singing the slow, kind of formal song in that fashion and backed it with some blood pumping, patriotic rock and roll...but that's the culture I suppose.

But the images are very good....and though having a large air wing would make it better...you have to wait for that. They did poretty darn good with what they had.

To whit:

Yeah, I can't believe they included some CGI, come on! They should be able to get enough real footage together at this point.

It is a publicity video by China-wood (and perhaps HongKong-wood) film producers. They learnt from Hollywood flicks like "Top Gun". The Chinese will also improve, and relatively quickly in defense equipment and weaponries etc. They have the cash and Chinese labour is relatively cheap vis-a-vis their shipyards etc. Their young graduates are returning from overseas universities and are able to contribute to China's technology and defense industries etc. Besides, the young are very hard working and committed in advancing in their careers - I should know as I taught as a visiting lecturer int'l biz subjects and conducted seminars for their Executive MBA Programs & undergraduate courses in China (2005 & 2006). In Asia we wish for China's Peaceful Rise.
