We have seen these type of pics time and time again not so interesting

What will be interesting is the pics from the shipyards showing the modules under construction we will get a good idea only then

Having said that I have no doubt the first indigenous carrier is under construction or very close to starting

100% correct!^^^

Yep, myself & no_name posted similar pictures in the Fan art, PS and CG images thread a few weeks ago. They look good.... but are but nothing but a fan boi dream.

We all await the real PLAN 1ST carrier as built from the keel up.

On the other hand, In4Ser's fan-art has no ski ramp, and looks like an updated USS Kitty Hawk; which isn't a bad place to start for China's first indigenous CV.
Well, we shall see.

I still expect the first one is going, in essence, to be a PLAN improved Liaoning/Varyag design that still has the ski-ramp, two elevators, etc. but with improvements.

It will probably have a better and bigger hanger deck layout, a smaler island with more deck space for spotting, perhaps a bit larger elevators, perhaps an engine test section on the fan tail accessable from the hanger and engine workshop, and improved weapons elevators/loading, etc. That sort of thing.

We shall see. Maybe this year!

Come on, the Liaoning returned to Qingdao on 1 january it has been 2 months now. Is she still there at port ? Does anyone know if there is a restriction zone being declared in the Bohai Sea ? Or is the Liaoning going out to sea so banal now that the media in China stop reporting on it ? Or are they at port to save money for years end when the air wing embarks ? Once the air wing embarks she will need 4 or 5 months of training then she could go out on patrol but it will still take years before she can actually fight a war.

Excellent post Franklin. Just like you I want the show to get going! Too much standing around twiddling our thumbs waiting for just a tidbit of news about CV-16. Come on PLAN get that ship underway!

And how about some new photos of what's going on aboard CV-16 PLAN???

It's actually the reverse: designing is easy, but actual production is difficult. Certain neighbor south of China is a good anti-example. That neighbor has a lot of designs, but can hardly bring any of them into production.

To build a vessel, you weld modules together. However, the devil is in the details. Here are some issues for you to nibble on:
  • How to ensure hundred of modules can be fitted together and aligned perfectly?
  • High-strength steels have special welding requirements. How would you maintain welding conditions so that the steels don't lose their high-strength property? How would you ensure the quality of your welds?
  • When there are different types of metal used, they accelerate corrosion. How would you prevent that from happening while still being able to use different materials?

Have to respectfully disagree. All the questions you asked are part of the design phase. I'm not talking just drawing a ship on paper and call it a day. I'm talking total design life cycle which includes every single bolt, every machinery, vents, every inch of wiring, pipes, module size, module integration, design features and operations, how everything fits together in a cohesive manner including but not limited to if a space is big enough for a human to fit and work properly in a confine space and that's just hardware..basically thousands of extremely detailed CAD/CAM diagrams and thousands of pages of blueprints. The software design piece is a whole nother monumental task with hundreds of millions of lines of codes that needs to all talk to each other.

Most countries actually cannot properly design a functional carrier from the ground up. Not saying building it is any easier but don't discount the extreme complexities of the design phase.

The material science is also part of the design phase. Designers need to take into consideration if the builders are welding titanium part to steel bulkhead or if the propeller shaft comes into contact with some soft metal etc and a million other consideration. They also need to know the weight of a piece or a component so it won't affect the ships hull or the integrity etc all those things are part of the design phase.

BEIJING, Feb. 27 -- A Defense Ministry spokesman confirmed on Thursday that Chinese and Russian naval forces will hold "Joint Sea-2014" drills from May to June.

The maritime exercise has become an institutionalized program in bilateral military exchanges after the two navies conducted joint drills in 2012 and 2013, said Yang Yujun.

Yang said detailed arrangements for the drills are still under discussion.

At the invitation of the Russian armed forces, China will also participate in the second Tank Biathlon Championships, added Yang.

The championships, invented by Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu last year, are scheduled to run from July 26 to August 16 at the Alabino firing range in the Moscow region, according to media reports.

...and then, for photos sake, one year ago exactly she anchored in her new home port.
