Based on new information here is the new sea trial update. The media even counts the days she was at port as part of the sea trial period. Rather it was Dalian or Sanya, but i only count the days she is at sea.

second sea trial (28 november 2011 – 10 december 2011) (12 days)
third sea trial (20 december 2011 – 29 december 2011) (9 days)
fourth sea trial (7 january 2012 – 16 january 2012) (9 days)
fifth sea trial (19 april 2012 – 30 april 2012) (11 days)
sixth sea trial (7 may 2012 – 16 may 2012) (9 days)
seventh sea trial (23 may 2012 – 1 june 2012) (9 days)
eighth sea trial (7 june 2012 – 21 june 2012 ) (14 days)
ninth sea trial (6 july 2012 – 30 july 2012) (24 days)
tenth sea trial (27 august 2012 – 30 august 2012) (3 days)

under shipyard total 103 days at sea in 1 year and 20 days

Sea trials under PLAN (commissioned on 25 september 2012)

first sea trial (11 october 2012 – 30 october 2012) (19 days)
second sea trail (12 november 2012 – 25 november 2012) (13 days)
third sea trial (11 june 2013 - 3 july 2013) (22 days)

I don't know if that's the captain's quarters and head, XO's cabin or flag offices (doubt it) or what not but if I'm a soviet sailor who served on board the Varyag I would be immensely jeolous of those pictures!!
I've never been on board a Soviet carrier but I have been on board an Udaloy class destroyer and let's just say their living quarters and accomodations leave a lot to be desired!! The captain or political officer's room are nice but not anywhere else!!!

It's good to know that the modern PLAN not only cares about their warfighting capabilities but put serious efforts in making the crew comfortable as well. A happy well fed crew is a good productive crew. I like to see pictures of the galley and chow hall of the Liaoning.

It's natural to talk about weapons, systems, sensors, aircrafts etc however what interest me almost as much are the 'boring' type of things that make a ship a ship and how the crew live their lives on board etc.

Here are some pictures of the interior of the Liaoning.

Lieutenant General
Omg starting the new year 2014 with a huge blast set the standard!!

Holy Mary this is more exciting than the commissioning for me this is what I was wanting to see and it's exceeded my expectations

Check those combinations a full carrier strike group with all the bells and whistles of a Las Vagas jackpot

The carrier
We have 3 x Type 054A FFG
Plus 3 x DDG, made up of 1 x Type 052C and 2 x Type 051C
And a 1 x Type 071 LPD
Plus I see 3 x SSN ( check the bottom left there's a trail which can only be a SSN)

So in total we have 11 vessals in total, huge huge carrier strike package and a massive show of force for the camera

Can't believe they threw in three submarines and a LPD for good measure!!

Imagine this sailing up the Suez Canal

Thanks to all the members that posted the excellent photos of the "Combined PLAN Fleet".

Now I have to play devils advocate..sorry.

I realize this is a photo op..however where are the PLAN helos? Seems to me some should be flying about. those decks on those escorts look barren of helicopters. The only helo flying is the one that took these great photos.

And the Liaoning..the flight deck is devoid of any activity.

Just my observation.

From the video, it looks like one of the sub is a Song Submarine.

And by the way, PLAN is not far away from materialising this video

Haha good points good points. and nice phrase with the "combined PLAN fleet". This is in no way a fully combat ready CBG, not even close, the airwing isn't there as well. It's just a photo featuring some of the PLAN ships sailing together, nothing less and nothing more.

But I'm still happy to see such a photo op. It shows the potential and a sketch of what a future Chinese CBG might look like.

Also I believe China is the only country besides US and France that's able to pull off such a "photo op" featuring carrier, large modern LPD, nuclear submarines, modern AEGIS destroyers and modern frigates with VLS capabilities. QE class isn't ready yet and India&Russia doesn't have AEGIS as of right now. Japan and Korea have plenty of AEGISs and also LPD&LHDs but no carrier yet. This alone makes me quite happy:)

I hate how they can make such amazing animation but couldn't do the English translation properly. It's really an eyesore to read the English translation. If they can't do it well why bother to translate anyway....

I guess I can help them a little if they're willing to pay a bit hahahaha:)

All of those years, when many of us were scoffed at when indicating in 2002-2003 that this is where the PLAN was heading, are seeing now that the Chinese have indeed, very methodically and with a lot of forthright, planning, and hard work gotten themselves to this position. And they are really just starting. By 2030 I expect there will be as many as five such groups.

Yes, there are no aircraft on the carrier...and so it has not formed it's teeth fully yet. But we all know that they are in serial production with the J-15s and it is just a matter of time.

I personally think the PLAN has released these pictures in order to send a message that they are continuing to develop their naval strength and forming the foundation for their naval air arm.

Particularly since this week the Indian Vikramaditya and Viraat are going to both be performing similar exercises in the Gulf of Oman and you can bet that they will have beaucoup pictures of that event for their own nation and enthusiasts.
