It's meant to be worn in confined spaces so designed to not be bulky, but still...

Very simplified version of the classical assault vest design, to the point almost like the H-Harness but less expansion potential. The design is bad if being ugly isn't bad enough (and ugly enough to be a crime no less), as it essentially allows just whatever those few small pockets could carry. Would've been better if use proper assault vest or copied version of MBSS plate carrier, and use the MOLLE system to modular the loadout as needed.

The modern term is a chest rig but this one is cut in Such a manner that it looks more like a ladies corset. Normally rigs like this are used in the west to augment a armored vest that lacks any MOLLE or built in pouches or as a stand alone for wear on the range. But the rounded style and break in the center as well as limp looking pouches and lack or MOLLE (something that we Know the PLA have used) makes it look ridiculous and almost useless.
I have seen a number of designs for kit of this class but rarely are they shaped or designed like this. I mean the front i can kind of understand but if they were going for a minimal amount of material and maximum amount of utility then they should have cut the camouflaged material out from under the arms and mated it to a full H or Y style harness or even better design a new harness set that throws in something useful like a hydration pack than a wrapping around the body. I can under stand the clip opening but the brasserie style is just... Bordering on fail? Had they just made it more like the old utility vest and just cut off the excess material i could understand that but this the extra should strap material is just ignored. The pockets look way to small for anything to be useful. And on a service uniform it looks all wrong... It looks more like something that should be tossed at the sailor well on liberty at a ... Ahem... Gentleman's club then something the sailor should be wearing.

BTW, that thing is designed so badly, the proper punishment should be run over, toe first, with a Type-59 tank on first gear, so to make this a drawn out affair.
