We don't need to speculate about why three engines may be plausible or beneficial -- imo the reasons are obvious.

The issue is more about why this couldn't be attained with two engines, and also whether the rumour base is sufficiently credible to seriously entertain the idea of three engines as a configuration to begin with. It is rare for a reason.
I guess that, for a 55-tons-MTOW level( 1.5 times of J-20 or F-22) fighter with great supersonic performance, if you want to take twin-engine design, you must have a Ultra-low bypass ratio turbofan engine with 1.5 times performance of F119, or you need an adaptive cycle engine which is even more powerful than developing XA100/XA101(200KN afterburner THRUST). Maybe China is not confident that they could develop such an advance engine in time, so they take the three engines design, and they can meet the thrust demand with three WS-15 engines.

Or alternatively, we hold fire and maybe recognize that there currently isn't any yet decisive indicators for us to expect the next gen fighter to take such a huge departure (three engines).

Making sense of rumours, if credible and convincing, is important.

But credible and convincing is the prerequisite to be met first.

If we do get the reveal of this fighter in the coming months as the rumor suggests, will it be in the form of CGI/drawing/plastic model or an actual RL photo of the prototype?

Currently it seems like people are expecting the actual article (airframe) to emerge, and we will get imagery of it (albeit likely with some delay and the usual "single pixel quality -> potato quality -> blurred quality -> discernable quality -> okay quality -> good quality -> high quality" journey that we always take.

That guy has made art for a long time, he's really an old timer.

I wouldn't say quoting it means anything other than "look at this". Certainly the idea of a three engine aircraft for a fighter is so odd (no pun intended) that one would need a rather high threshold to even entertain the idea.

Let's not verbalize certain possibilities if they don't deserve to be verbalized.
It's odd, but not completely unprecedented.
I remember some 3-engined NORAD interceptor projects by North American(NR-349).

For some reason, both

are quoting the post with above drawing without explicitly saying anything. They may be implying the 6th gen is using this triple engine design.
Aaaand with that the posts were vaporised. Original and quotes.

Hmmm. I wonder.

Triple engine would put it in tactical bomber territory... Maybe the H20 and the 6th gen are essentially the same plane?
I'm still inclined to think that whatever trijet JH this is is separate from a 6th Gen succesor of the J-20.
